idiots 'r' us

one of the schools i work with is currently in special measures cos they failed all of the offsted criteria (and set fire to the inspector) and as a result they're having a huge push on numeracy and literacy. in fact the school has become a little, well, obsessed with it really, especially mathematics. id go so far as to say they've become maths zealots (i like that word).

anyway, when i arrived on Friday, one of the students was in the exclusion area cos she'd done something very, very naughty. whilst i was waiting to be collected i asked her what she had done to be put in exclusion. Turns out she had written

"Maths are shit"

on her pencil case.

i don't know why but there is something about that, that makes me laugh so hard it actually hurts. crying just thinking about it now actually.

actually, now i think about it, perhaps she meant she'd written 'maths r shit' and was referring to the radius r. in which case she's a) brighter than the school imagines and b)attempting to calculate the circumference of a very strange circle.

1: the build up of cfc's in the ozone layer and the depleted thickness thereof.

2: Pollution from increased manufacture and traffic congestion.
