A couple of speeding questions

Driving up from Surrey to Leeds after Christmas today, just as you come from the M1 onto the bit where it's still big wide open motorway but has a 50 limit (m606 I think) about 9.30pm tonight. I'd come off cruise but only just, I noticed a marked X5 with a guy with a laser gun. I braked hard to get my speed down but worst case scenario I'd just taken cruise off so he caught me at 70. Yep should have made sure I was doing 50 as soon as I entered the 50 zone but it doesn't stop me being really pissed off with myself!

I understand that you can get a letter through the post even if you don't get stopped at the roadside with a laser?

With the news rules what's the likely outcome?

An alleged 70mph in a 50mph limit would qualify for a fixed penalty - 3 points & £100.

Court imposed fines have been means related for ages, but that's only if a matter is proceeded to court .

Correct! Must have driven it 100 times over the past ten years and I've never seen a speed trap!
