Anyone have flat battery issues over the winter? I’ve had to have the AA/Porsche Assistance out twice in the last few cold weeks due to non start.

AA tell me the battery is only accepting 12 Amps of charge with the engine running which is too low apparently. Battery is only 2014 fitted.

I probably don’t run the car enough but never had this issue on my 997.1.

Anyone else had similar experience and also any thoughts on trickle charger?

Get a CTEK trickle charger and it may resuscitate this one, otherwise you need a new battery. OEM ones for these models are renowned for struggling with the draw the car produces even when switched off. If not under Porsche warranty buy a Bosch - much better.

My first Moll battery lasted nearly five years so I doubted the Moll haters however the car was driven extensively. The second lasted half as long but with lower mileage and the use of a CTEK charger which led me to believe that actually first time round I just got lucky - as stated before just get a Bosch with better performance, a five year guarantee and cheaper.

Yep, had similar issues.. tracker, other peripheral services take a load on the battery and through lack of usage the battery deteriorates. The OEM ones are good for 5 years apparently.

CTEK trickle charger is a massive asset, however suggest you swap it out with a Bosch Silver S5 replacement. They can be sourced easily.

There's a good thread here which is a useful read: http://www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?p=779379

Thanks - I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) that I must replace battery with Porsche battery to keep my Porsche warranty valid or they could decline a future claim?

I’ll definitely pick up the CTEK as consensus is on that. Any particular model that’s suggested?

CTEK MXS 5 is the one I would always go for - Amazon usually has deals around £60 and also all the different connectors.

I asked for one for Christmas. Amazon cheapest. Added the 2.5m extension cable and 12v car socket plug. Around £90 all in.

My 2014 981 accepts constant charge via the armrest 12v socket so I've plugged the MXS 5.0 in, and shut the cable in the door bottom seal (my OPC confirmed the seal will give with no damage - the Porsche charger IS a CTEK rebadged).

Seems the CTEK has multiple programs to recondition the battery. After 3-4 days (before I received the CTEK) my dash was showing "reduced voltage protection" or similar, hence the wish for a battery conditioner. The MXS 5.0 is charger/reconditioner/trickle charger all in one. It will also tell you if your battery is beyond redemption as one of the standard checks it does.

Does this mean you can plug it into the cigarette lighter rather than have to fiddle around with the putting clamps on the battery itself?
