The test for whether one is living in a police state is that those charged with enforcing the law are allowed to break the laws with impunity. (Jon Roland)

When police officers travel at 82mph in a 40 limit because they are late for a meeting (and use the siren despite the lack of emergency) and at 86 in a 50, and get their penalty halved ... (see: WHY DO THEY EVERY TIME..

When T BLiar can use the Bus lane of the M4 ...

When Robin Cook (did I spell that correctly?) can exceed the ton ...

We might not be there yet, but we are well on the way.

Yep definitely. The sooner Bliar goes and takes his style of "democratic" government with him the better. Would it be too much to ask that these people to resign when they get caught and if not sack them?

Offensive rubbish it is not!!
I live in a sleepy seaside town, not much trouble here.
Recently the police have taken to frequenting the local pubs every night in groups of 3 or 4 at a time. They pull up outside on the double yellows and strut in with their shades on looking like a group of hitmen, hang around for half an hour then move to the next pub.
What a waste of money. All the pubs with a late license have to employ their own doormen anyway.

I expect they're in training to become high priority cigarette constables in readiness for the smoking ban, 'OI YOU, OUTSIDE WITH THAT CIGARETTE'!!

Didn't get my speeding penalty binned or halved.

I smoke outside and inside for that matter (The only thing I don't do is throw fag ends out of the window - that really winds me up)

I regularly attend drinking hovels whilst off duty and do indeed attend them when members of the public want to take each others heads off with bottles - and mine for that matter.

Police state - I must be doing something wrong.

Anarchy - the way ahead then.

You obviously weren't driving a senior officer or politician then. It really does help. Get a blow-up doll from one of those shops that used to trade behind blacked-out windows and dress it up in a CC's uniform. Stick a photograph of some senior officer chosen at random ... say ... oh ... I don't know ... well ... er ... maybe ... yes, that's it ... Brunsturmfurher over the face (but don't cover up the wide-open mouth of the doll, you want it to look natural!). You will then be immune to speeding penalties and can use the HOV lanes when they're introduced - Streaky

Obviously they wont as they either are spectacularly dim (unlikely to get to that position if they are that stupid) or think that they can get away with it (much more likely).....

Quite why these people believe themselves to be above the law is beyond me. I was reading the same story in the Metro this morning and it talked about the north circular (85 in a 50 and 40 zone!). Is this the same stretch of road which is regularily the scene of deaths? So much so it has speed cameras on most of it? Yet, said police driver and senior policeman seems to think that speed doesnt kill and he is immune to prosecution.....

Kind of puts a hole in the argument from their side doesnt it?

Actually 85 is fine on most sections of the North circular and at least this chief constable is not prominent in the speeding debate.

I was refering to the thread at the weekend-about a secret street racing society.
