PS4 - which car racing game?
Discussion
Santa gave me a PS4 for Xmas which came with Gran Turismo Sport. It's been 10+ years since I've played on a games console (X-box) but I seem to remember racing car games being fun and addictive. I'm not feeling the love for GTS. Is there a better or best racing car game for the PS4 that might get me reaching for the controller again?
Thanks
Thanks
GT Sport is pretty good to be honest. Have you turned all the assists off, it starts to feel a bit more real then. The group 3/4 cars are better to drive than the N class ones imho. Feel free to add me (Crafty77) or any of the others and come race in the lobbies with us if you like.
Alternatively you could look at Project Cars 2, you really need a wheel for it because its difficult on controller and they are slowly fixing the bugs which were quite prolific upon release.
Assetto Corsa doesn't quite have the flair of GT Sport but I'd rate it over project cars.
I've read that DIRT is good, but haven't played it.

Crafty, I didn't know you could turn assists off! I was hoping to be able to drift around corners - at the moment I am stuck with the computer assisting braking, and every time I try and drift it seems to just cancel it out and throw me into the armco!
I'm still new to gaming (only played on it for approx 1 hour in total) but only playing in arcade mode. Still wondering how to unlock tracks etc - do I need to sign into something to be able to access more features? At the mo it seems a boring game but admittedly I've not worked out how to play it at it's best.
My fave game of all time was Wipeout. Seems like things have moved onto another level

I rate the original Project Cars as the best driving game on PS4. Closely followed by Dirt Rally.
I use a steering wheel though. It seems that PS4 driving ‘sims’ almost need a steering wheel to extract their full value.
Maybe the more arcadey (but very good) Drive Club would be the best bet with a controller?
It’s certainly fast, drifty and forgiving!

Agree Driveclub is good fun....the only PS4 driving game I have kept since I bought it....I use a steering wheel though. It seems that PS4 driving ‘sims’ almost need a steering wheel to extract their full value.

Select "options" which is a gear cog before you start a race, scroll down a little and there should be options like "auto drive" which by default is set to brake & steer - set to none. ASM set to off, Counter steer assist to off, ABS to weak. IIRC you can also change traction control there.Crafty, I didn't know you could turn assists off! When driving press the dpad left or right button, this will cycle through a few on board displays like sector times, track map, traction control (in blue) and brake bias (red). Set brake bias to +2 or +3 (to the rear). Traction control depends on what car, but 1 or 2 at the most. That should liven the cars up a good deal.
You can get to the options menu by pressing the little options button in game too, but I think it doesn't let you change everything at that point.
Aside from arcade races If you go to campaign there are all the driving tests of old in driving school, there is also mission challenges which is like a follow on and finally circuit experiences that makes you do all the tracks a sector at a time and then a full lap. You will win a car for each line in driving school / challenges and a car for each circuit experience.
They have now also added GT League which should be very familiar if you've played the older games.
There are two parts of online - first is the daily races, these are pre-picked races that run every hour (maybe a bit less) where you race other people. Some here have done loads, I've only done a few. The other side is the lobbies - just go in to that option and it shows you a list of lobbies that are open where you can race others, the track and car options are picked by the host, they also get to decide when to start the race (until then you're qualifying) and what tyre deg / fuel consumption the cars wil use.
There are also the FIA Championships online, but don't worry about that for now.
Throw me a friend request and I'll set up a lobby when we're both on to help figure it all out.

If it's racing you want it has to be online...otherwise you're just chasing pixels
Disagree. F1 2017 on the PS4 is made to be played offline and is very satisfying once you have the AI difficulty level bang on. The reality of driving a McLaren at China or Spain and watching other cars sail by whilst nursing various ecu and gearbox parts through the season is awesome (if you know what I mean...)
Just picked up my first point at Spain after numerous retirements and safety cars worked in my favour.

Cheers mate, I'll give all the above a try. If and when I try online I will take you up on the offer - thanks. Agree it can be fun...but I don't get that extra nervous energy from the AI that I get from racing people Just picked up my first point at Spain after numerous retirements and safety cars worked in my favour.

I think you might find a lot of devs are making their games fairly decent offline because a few folk don't like the subscription system.
I certainly am not a fan of it and playing racing games online with a pad is a fairly awful experience due to years and years of playing on a PC with a decent wheel and pedals!
Every person I know who has a PS$ does not pay for the line sub and gets mroe than enough satisfaction out of gaming still.
For me it's a bit of a con
