Swap my 911 for new Cayenne??

In this day and age of speed cameras at every corner I'm finding I have more fun in my wife's 07 plate Cayman than I do in my 991 911. Press on a bit in the 911 & its so easy to be doing 3 figure speeds where as the Cayman you have to really work at it, with more fun to be had at lower speeds. Am I wrong?
I'm finding I use the 911 for longer cruises of which it does very well but with obvious compromise on luggage space etc. I don't feel I'm getting the best from it, so considering a swap for a new Cayenne? Owning a 911 was a boy hood dream but its not the love affair I was hoping.
Has anyone done the same? swapped 911 for Cayenne / Macan, Q. deep regrets, loved it, good compromise considering my intended use, cruiser rather than blaster. Thoughts appreciated.

I think your usage is key. The fact that you would retain a Cayman in the family means you would presumably have access to to a drivers car now and then.
I have 911s and a Cayenne in the garage and if I were forced to have just one vehicle it would be the Cayenne. Great for carrying /snow/towing, very comfy for long distances,tough as old boots.
I have not driven the new Cayenne so am relying on media reports that it is a major leap forward. I know this is PH heresy but given your intended use I would make the change.

Probably a good shout, though I'd rather sell the Cayman and keep the 991 if possible. I've had Cayennes since they were launched back in '03 or '04, can't remember now, and they've been all that RDMcG has said, over 200k miles between four cars and never a major problem with any of them. The 911s have always sat alongside, some years as a commuter car, but more recently as fun cars, but if push came to shove and there was only room for one car in my life I would take the Cayenne.

Cayenne 4.8S on 07 plate. Lovely noise, plenty of go, corners flat with its trick suspension, mega comfortable, love it. Just as much fun in its way as my C4S or V8V. Not quite the thing for a lads road trip obviously but all round the best car in my garage.

Depending on model, variant and year, the Cayenne can be a very accomplished mode of transport - particularly if you require a big(ish) luxury SUV for carrying several people, luggage, or going off road.....
But, in no way is it ever a 'sports car' with the DNA of a 911 or a Cayman. These are sector leading, purpose designed, drivers' cars, with their primary objective to deliver performance and driving satisfaction, on road or track.
No one can blame Porsche for prostituting themselves to the 'lifestyle' SUV market - I've got one - but they're a long way removed from what Porsche really does best.

Depends on usage - if you want fun you have to consider a boxster s or gts etc. If moving the family around it has to be a panamera.
I know a lot of car nuts who love the cayenne but the image thing is sooo bad. Whereas the panamera is better to drive, faster and I would argue as practical. Oh and people let you out in traffic too!

well, I have a Cayenne now and a Panamera Sport Turismo on order and they are definitely not substitutes. The Pana is quite low and so not great for deep snow,- most importantly the rear deck is WAY to low to fit my Great Dane in..so the Cayenne stays. of course the Pana drives better but neither is a 911 so we are talking a different set of needs.Depends on usage - if you want fun you have to consider a boxster s or gts etc. If moving the family around it has to be a panamera.

Personally, one one of them?..the Cayenne is roomier, airier, higher, and can actually tow properly if you ever need that.

I live in Lincolnshire & are blessed with some great driving roads of which I have enjoyed over the years on bikes & cars, knowing many intimately 'as you do' but I used work on the same principle as you that policing numbers are lower reducing chances of being caught, I used to think if I saw one camera van there's a good chance I would see another locally, but now I see more vans looking to be working as a tag team, even using extended cameras on a boom to look over a possible slower car masking you coming up behind them, how sneaky. I'm just not enjoying spirited driving as much anymore, gutted as its a huge part of my life & the 911 was a dream car, but only if I can use it properly.

My wife's very generous she allows to drive her Cayman to the petrol station & back LOL, I've been reading all the media & watching you tube vids on new Cayenne, it does look very nice, I'm looking forward to some demo cars coming available, I was originally thinking of a Macan but now the new Cayenne is out it does look a little dated on the interior. You’ve probably hit the nail on the head, the 911 as with lots of modern sports cars is so accomplished you do loose the sense of speed, hence the thrill.Our 11 year old Cayman is so organic you really know what the car is doing, that’s why I prefer it over the 911. They say you should never meet your heroes, & that’s what’s happened to me with the 911, it’s not what I thought it was going to be, gutted.......
