I was looking to buy one of these a couple of years ago but they were quite a few grand above my budget so I opted for a 10 plate VW Scirocco instead. I have recently seen a few 62 and 13 plate cars with around 60k miles for between 10-11k.

Are these 8V cars reliable?

I have also considered the 1 series M Sport in diesel or petrol form again around 2013. I have driven both previously a couple of years ago but only for a few miles so any advice on ownership would be much appreciated.

I am looking at spending up to £11k

We have an A3 8V.

Low running costs and looks great.

The 1 series is a better car, 118i or 120i with autobox would be my choice

It's not
To be a passenger in front or back is fking horrible, seats are crap, cramped, and with M sport suspension is the least comfortable car I have ever been in

I'd go for the Audi it's a better car overall than the (especially in 120i form) BMW, the BMW is the better drivers car especially in 130i form but interior & space wise the Audi wins.

Basically BMW if it has a straight 6, Audi if not.
