F30/F31 328i - experiences?
Discussion
Thinking of updating my E90 335i and with F31 Touring equivalents and 340i's still commanding strong prices and I have come across a (small) number of 328i's which seem to be pretty impressive from what I have been able to find online. I know it is a 4-pot but in terms of performance (sub-6s 0-60), economy (40s MPG) and value for money (£17k for a 2013 Touring used approved with 45k miles) they seem pretty amazing. Common consensus seems to be that they produce more power/performance than quoted by BMW (probably to leave space for the 335i/340i?), and I am sure being trubo-charged they could go higher with the same 8 speed ZF box that the more powerful variants have.
From some of the videos I've found online (more in the US than UK), they don't even seem to sound too bad.
I am also considering a Golf R Estate, but the 328i seems to offer a similar package at a lower price and less conspicuous image.
Anyone any UK experiences?

Seems people are struggling to get the claimed economy from them:

Otherwise, try one and see what you think -after all, you're the one that's going to have to live with it.

I've had an F31 328i M Sport for the last year. It's a very nice car, ticks lots of boxes.
—
+ Comfortable on long journeys
+ Relatively quick
+ Handles OK
+ Roomy
- The run flat tyres are a little noisy. I only really notice on the rough/concrete parts of the M40/M42/M25.
- I've just had to replace the front shockers as one was leaking at the recent MOT and you can only buy them in pairs!
- One of the parking sensors stopped working, but I think that was from a jet wash.

I sold my F31 328i in September after 3 years and 40k. It was purchased as an Approved Used at 1 year old and 9k.
As said, it's quick enough, never felt short of power (a remap will see 290BHP), sounds ok and achieves reasonable economy - Low 40s is easy enough at 70mph.
It's a shade narrower than the E92 and slightly longer.
The negatives for me were the bouncy suspension - could fit an aftermarket set of springs and the 19" 403M wheels will corrode!
All that went wrong with mine (apart from the wheel corrosion) was a failed catalytic convertor. Both this and all 4 wheels were fixed under warranty.
I would have another, but would look at a 340i as well.
