I’m looking to buy a 991 turbo S-
I can’t afford to buy a new one but can afford a used one.....
But having found one or two of a viable spec it would appear that
no one can order one new without getting privacy glass installed- which I think looks
bloody awful....although I admit it’s better if keeping dogs in the car- and I know lots of
folk who transport otter hounds around in a 991.
I think tinted glass should be a £2000 extra to stop people ordering it.
If you have a 991 turbo s in silver free of tinted glass please drop me a line.....

You should follow Chris Harris on Twitter...he loves a rant about Privacy Glass. I agree that on a 911 it really doesn’t look right...that said on our family car (Cayenne) it’s definitely something I’d have as much for the practicality (kids) as the looks.

I agree Cheib, naff on sports cars but a 4x4 without it looks like a greenhouse.

Horrible option. And, yes, aka 'drug dealer spec'.

At one time it was only applied as an after-market film, so could be removed, but now it seems to be on lots of BMWs, Mercs, Audis, Range Rovers.....

If you live in the tropics, maybe some extra tint helps, but I travelled in the rear of an Audi recently, with it, and on a dull day it felt very oppressive.

I removed mine when I bought my 996T. I used a razor blade and plastic card to peel off the film and then plenty of sticky stuff remover and cloth. A pain, but the result is good. Firms will do this professionally for you for ~£300. Should not impact the value of a 991TS if done properly. Lovely car, by the way.

I seriously hope that on a 991 they use proper tinted glass and not crappy tint film.

It’s just ridiculous that it’s very rare to find a 991 with no privacy glass.
We live in a country where the weather is primarily ste.

I got it on mine, but to be honest with black it's hardly noticeable....

When you have a Cayenne...the drug dealer look is there regardless of whether it has privacy glass or not wink

Nice car.....

On a different note- how do you personally find the ride comfort of your turbo S ?
Does it ride well over bumpy B roads or is it firm/harsh?

It is indeed tinted glass, not film.

The ride is fine, I tend not to use the firm setting even when using Sports +. You get a lot of tyre noise maybe you notice it because the exhaust is so quiet.....

Apologies. Things have got rather grander since 2004. Good in a way.

Oh - and whilst you are not ticking Privacy glass, please don't tick glass sunroof either!

I want a GTS with no sunroof in about 18 months!!

Cheers!

I did ask my son if he wanted “ugly kids glass” but he refused when I told him it was to stop kids scaring innocent members of the public........ biggrin

I can't stand the stuff on any car, if it's on when bought it comes off before collection.

I assume it can only come off if it’s a tinted film- which most new cars don’t have?
