Hi All

My wife has a 2005 Audi TT 3.2 Convertable.

We have been having a intermittant problem.
The battery has been going flat but not all the time.
This happened about 6 months ago so i changed the battery and all seemed ok but just over a month ago it started to go flat agian, sometimes it would be fine overnight and over a weekend but then it would be flat one morning.
I would just charged the battery up and it was fine for a week or so.
It has been parked up over Christmas and would not start on Tuesday.
I connected up the battry charger and the alarm went off and i could not get it to turn off so in the end i disconnected the battery and charged it up un-connected.
I went to it just now and the charger showed a full charge, i connected it to the car and the alarm went off again but now the key fob wont work to unlock/lock the doors. I can open the car up via the key but it seems the central locking is not working.
I cant open the passenger door so i cant check the fuses!!!
Any suggestions before i take it to a garage??

Cheers
Andy

I would say connect an ammeter between the battery wire and the battery terminal, see what current is being drawn, then remove fuses and see if the value changes, if it does your problem is more than likely on that circuit.

exactly this, there is plenty of you tube guides that shows you how to tell if there is a battery drain, I had this on my 2006 saab 93, turned out to be the standard amp under the seat.

plus if you don't have a multi meter there is plenty available for under a £10ner and a valuable piece of kit

Have you noticed if the radiator fans have been staying on for an inordinate amount of time after shut down?

Fan controllers are a common issue on that platform.

What radio does it have fitted? Some of the VW double DIN units (RNS510) are known to drain the battery without an appropriate CAN gateway update if you have upgraded to one of those.

If none of the above, a current draw test is the only way to diagnose it. On these cars, about 10 milliamps with everything off is the normal current draw. If it's 1 amp or more, you need to isolate the offending circuit and trouble shoot it.
