Now then, Doc Martens, talk to me........
Discussion
.............I've never had any, I nearly bought some when Alexei Sayle stomped in a pair all them years ago, where's the best place to buy genuine, and is there anything I should know? I know they can be pricey, how long will they last me? I'm likely to order online, should I order a size up or down from a 10-44uk? I've never even tried a pair on.

I find the boots to be true to size but the showe come up a bit big, size 10 also.
The better ones will be made in the UK but nearly all the deals you see will be made in Thailand or Vietnam.
Do you live any where near Northampton? I understand that their factory outlet might be a good bet.

Just bought some for my son , best place = online from the Doc Martens , we bought the vintage ones which are close to the originals but not quite as good imo . I set up an account on the store and was immediately sent a 10% off voucher code so ended up paying £156 instead of £170
Looked on fleebay but you never know what you're getting for less dosh.Stella Tortoise said:

No but I'd make the trip to the factory, could be interesting. The better ones will be made in the UK but nearly all the deals you see will be made in Thailand or Vietnam.

Does anyone really think these are a fashion item any more?
Apart from certain ladies in dungarees and people who are obsessed with Two Tone/Ska.
I really don't know what I would wear them with now without looking a complete knob.
My teenage daughter has a pair of black DM shoes for school, apparently anything else is not cool. Apart from certain ladies in dungarees and people who are obsessed with Two Tone/Ska.

She did look a bit upset when I told her that both her mother and I used to wear DMs back in the ‘80s.

I have worn 1460 boots for years. Remember they will need breaking in, unless you by the 'For Life' range which use a softer leather. I have had a.pair of them for the past 4 years and they have been worn 4/5 times a week since then. They are on their second pair of laces which came with the boots and I think I will get another year out of them before I send them back for new soles. The Wonder Balsam supplied with the boots keeps them in great condition. I even got a pair of 1461 shoes as I didn't like the pointy brogues that everyone appears to be wearing at present. Dr Martens online are reliable and customer service is great. Though there are good sellers on eBay. Look online for sizing, I have never had a problem with my size 8s.

I wear the steel toe cap Icon boots at work, which are great as they are slip-ons - quite handy if you need to take them off a lot.

I wear them every day for a predominantly indoor manual job. They last about a year before looking tatty, and another year as my gardening boots before completely disintegrating.
Size-wise I am probably an 11.5 but I order them as 11 and they are fine.
