Vintage car trials
Discussion
I'm sure some will be horrified by how we treat this car, but it has been doing trials like this for nearly 70 years. Despite looks it is looked after and is currently driven to and from events if they are local enough.
We were double entered as normal but this year dad had another passenger so I could take a few videos / photos etc.

Bravo!
An event I try never to miss spectating at each year is the VSCC John Harris Derbyshire Trial; it looks so much fun, pity I don't have an eligible car.
You can do very similar things with non-vintage cars. An event I try never to miss spectating at each year is the VSCC John Harris Derbyshire Trial; it looks so much fun, pity I don't have an eligible car.

I'd be very surprised if most moderns could do that! (too big & heavy, tyres too wide, too much power & overhang, less ground clearance)Norfolkandchance said:

It really is fun - I've done it in several cars.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5U4JKvs88g is me and a mate in his Charade, we competed with the child seats still in the back.
I LOVE trialling. It’s an absurd sport...utterly ridiculous but so much fun. And surprisingly technical ...assessing conditions, adjusting tyre pressures, changing driving style and line of attack with no prior sight of the section takes real skill. I just bounce and map read...though a 1921 chain-drive 3.4 litre V-Twin GN in the middle of the night, with no roof, windscreen or map light can be challenging enough in itself.
oh and no front brakes.
Have done pretty much all of the VSCC Trials as crew in the GN though the highlight has been completing the MCC Lands End Trial. All 24 hours of it. Won’t forget Blue Hills Mine in a hurry.

Have also done the Amsterdam 100 night trial in the GN. Last weekend before Christmas. When we did it, it was -15 deg and lots of snow but it’s a fab event if you ever get the chance. The Dutch are bloody bonkers. We came last.

It’s not all classics tho. We do the MCC Exeter Trial in a TVR V8S. First weekend of January. Roof down of course. Can’t beat a V8 screaming through the forests in the middle of the night. Gutted to be missing it this year.

In my yoof I was the sidecar wallah at scrambles meets. I should have moved on to being a "bouncer" in car trials but I never did and I'd just be a dead weight now! Life's love lost.....
I am pleased that I am not the only one on this forum who takes his brain out and puts it in a glass jar before putting on a crash helmet. Years ago in a life long past, in a land far far away I used to do Production Car Trials in a Hillman Imp. A great car for that sort of thing as the engine was over the driven wheels. An old car built for road rallies I used to just attack the hill rather than the more preferred subtle approach.
won the club championship one year though brute force and ignorance.
