Posted something similar in the homes section and was advised there is a guy on here who might offer some logical and decent advice

Never owned, live in South East and spent too long contracting and renting, have a decent perm job now and enough to perhaps afford a small flat or something.

Live in Beds/Bucks and renting is getting silly, at least buying might help.

Simply put, is getting a mortage at 46 viable, what will i ahve to pay aboive and beyond the repayments, what about stamp duty.

Just after some easy advice

I spoke to a mortgage guy the other day and he said you can normally get them to finish when you are 70

So if you are 46 you could get a mortgage that is 24 years long.

Yes you can get a mortgage.

You may be limited to a term that ends by your 70th birthday.

You can take a longer term if you have some form of retirement income evidence....pension etc.

Some providers now go up to the age of 80.

I'm thinking about taking up an offer with a 10 year profile and I'm 65.

For reference, it's not the starting age that lenders care about, it's the age at the end of the term..........

Thanks for the reply

My retirement age is officially 67.

I am an only child and would have a parents house, but would likely live in that were it is and rent out the possible purchased house here as I would get mroe for it

I ahve a 100k so far in an investment, (pensions) basically plus works and state, (should I stay there forever!)

Mortgage wise, 125k is about all I can do, praps 10k deposit.

Banks or brokers?

What guarantees do you have that neither of your parents are going to end up in a nursing home?

Assuming no acrimony, a more than decent amount of time to make that an irrelevance.

Good point though

One of them is goon already. And the other would possible use a massive police pension to cope!
