Thinking about getting a Cerbera this year and have read about ground clearance over sleeping policeman and approaching at slight angle to get over - which I understand as my Bugatti Teal has a very low ground clearance and long wheel base combo.

However, what about wide road humps? In the small village that I drive through on the way to work they have placed those very wide/deep speed humps so going over at an angle doesn't work on them. Does anyone

a) have a clue what i'm talking about!
b) if yes to (a) then have you any idea if a Cerbera will go over without grounding?

I'd love to test drive one and take it over these bumps to try, but not sure the 'local' dealer will let me take one out for that long/far.

(local town is Shefford near Bedford, just in case anyones actually driven over the 'actual' bumps I'm referring to).

Thanks
Igg

Greetings Igg, get one, you won't regret it but your bank manager will! I have driven over all types of speed bumps and have never had a problem. The simple technique is to drive over them as slow as poss so that there is no compression of the struts (easy with the suspension being so firm). I have, however, grounded it going up a multi-storey car park. The 'at an angle' didn't work with me, wife and suitcase in murtur.

I've been over all sorts of speed bumps, full width, part width, etc and have yet to have a problem.

I do make sure that I slow right down though!

Thanks - perhaps I'm worrying over nothing then!

A few more posts will probably follow once I've driven one (or two!).

The only ones that I have had a problem with are the ones that are like a blob of tarmac that only cover part of the lane. The ones the local councils have a habit of making higher than regulation height.
Solution is to straddle two if them with the exhaust in the dip between the two.

One of the biggest grounding problems (driving slowly or not) is the standard exhaust - the silencer back box is fairly bulbous and is prone to grounding. TVR never modified it preferring to assume/suggest/expect owners to fit sports pipes anyway! The straight-through pipes do without the back box, and are faired in neatly under the car.

When I first had mine, it'd ground out coming up the potholed lane to the house. I replaced the exhaust partly for reasons of taste (pop pop bang bang!) and to get shot of the back box, and now it no longer grounds.

So if ever you needed an excuse.....

We had speed bumps of two varieties put into our village last year, and also in another village that I have to drive through to get to work. They included the speed cushions as well as junction platforms that cover the width of the road (and junction).

I haven't had any grounding problems going over these, thouhg I do so very slowly. One problem that I have had which is probably not coincidental, is that my tracking keeps going out now very frequently and I'm seeing abnormal tyre wear on the inside of my front tyres as a result. I didn't get this before the bumps were put in.

I worried about the cerbie grouding out before buying. Ive not had a problem yet, anywhere.

The S series is very bad in this respect, with the V8S being far better than the V6's. I dont have anything to compare it to, but the cerb is even better than the V8S which wasnt bad to begin with.

Hi igg think on the positive side, you will have to find a long way home to avoid them, more time for pops and bangs.

Igg,

Wotcha ... Ive been thru Shefford on many occasions ... mines very low and fouls loads of things ... from memory Sheffords bumps are OK even with wife and kids ... (which makes it worse!)

to be fair most bumps are ok if at very low speed!

Each Cerbera will be slightly different as the ride height is adjustable, well is on mine even with the original suspension.
Taking mine to Austec tommorow to have it raised by an inch, as i cut a few chunks out of the tarmac on back road to Godstone yesterday, no damage to the car though. a shame as it looks great "sitting on its belly"
