Dental Advice - Baby Teeth

My daughter (6) has two cavities, one on a molar the other an small one on a front tooth. Dentist has given me two options:

1) Cap the molar and fill the small cavity on the front tooth (as caps are not suitable for front teeth) or.....
2) Fill the front tooth and if all goes well fill the molar at a second appointment.

As I discussed this with the dentist she mentioned that once a cap is fitted if any further work is required on that tooth it will not be possible and extraction is the only option, I did question to myself after the chat with the dentist what the point in the cap was if it didn't fully protect the tooth.

Just looking for views from any dentists on here, how effective are caps - is the point made above valid re: extraction being only option in future?

Are there any other options I should be exploring?

I'm a bit dentistphobic due to some heavy handed approaches back in the 80s and don't want my daughter to suffer the same fate.
