Currently driving a 53 plate golf with 90k miles that has had a couple of problems in last few years and feels like that may only get worse as time and mileage goes by.

With first child on the way, thinking this is a good time to buy something a bit bigger, newer and more reliable. Ideally <70k miles and newer than 2010. Not overly fussed about engine size, or high performance. Would like to get something that will fit 3 kids one day though so needs to be decently sized. I currently commute by train and wife works from home, so it won't be used for commuting at all for the time being.

Wife has picked out a Volvo XC60 as her #1 desirable, but given above criteria, that's looking a bit out of budget. I've been browsing around VW Touaregs and Peugeot 3008's and the like but nothing seems as polished as the Volvo. Any ideas?

are you handy with a spanner out of interest?

Ive been looking at newer xc60s and I think you'll struggle to get one in mileage and budget. The Touareg could be quite costly to run if you're not able to do the odd repair.

Audi A6s & A4s are pretty bullet proof our A6 has give a lot of good service!
