( Look at the orange shape that looks like growing ivy, now half way across the screen)

Posted this on the MB page ans a MB forum with on definitive answer.

The best guess so far is a leaky LCD.

Is it still there when you switch it off?

A broken LCD...like a delaminate?.....maybe

Or do Mercs now have a "twigs caught in front grille warning"?

I've had a mono LCD do that before. I believe what causes it is the elements not returning to their resting state and staying in their activated position. I was able to fix most of them by firmly pressing on the screen with a rounded object (i used a touch screen pointer which was perfect). Obviously you will need to get access to the LCD to do this, which looks like it could be difficult.
