Chaps,

My feet smell. Always have, to a greater or lesser extent. And I have never really found anything that can be done about it.

Any suggestions?

Oli.

If yer feet smell and yer nose runs, you were made upside down.

Ask your doc if you need a fungicide fer that toe jam.

Rotten sweat? Wash them twice a day, and clean your socks. Also avoid shoes with man-made fibres.

Personally, I never wear the same shoes on two consecutive days. When I was on holiday one year I wore the same trainers for three weeks and they could have walked to the bin themselves. Shoes need to dry out between uses. Be very careful about shoe with goretex in them as this can hold moisture and cause a smell in itself.

Also get your feet checked out by a chiropodist. Some fungal infections can remain for years and you may not know you have them. UV light can show up some real nasties (once saw a TV prog which made me about fungal foot infections)

yep second this

my feet sweat to much and have been told to bathe them in Potassium Permanganate which should help but if you use to much you end up with red feet as it stains the skin, not a good look in the gym

General foot care, washing regularly, drying thoroughly, wearing cotton socks, caring for nails as fungi can start growing under there. If you are unsure if there is a fungal infection (any itching or white peeling skin) either go to your pharmacist or doc, but visiting the chiropodist sounds like a plan.

See it as an advantage, any tight packed venue then whip off a shoe and hey presto, you have all the space you need.

Wife ia a Podiatrist (Chiropodist for you oldies! )

Her advice:

Cotton socks, changed twice a day.
Wipe feet with surgical spirit between changes and at night.
Alternate shoes, dont wear same pair two days running.
Soak in Pottassium Pomanganate.
Try products etc from Boots (but you've probably done this)

If none of this works there is an operation that can be done - go see your GP if you fancy the idea!

Potassium Permanganate works well - available OTC as "Permitabs". Add one to a washing-up bowl of water (best to get your own bowl to keep for this purpose!) Soak for 10-15 minutes daily to start with then cut down when it's under control - you will find the frequency which suits you by trial and error. Also keep your own towel for drying afterwards so that you don't get into trouble for ruining the good ones. All the other advice re socks and shoes will help too. Surgery should be last resort as it can fail and also have other (maybe unwanted) effects.

Chaps and Chap-esses,

Many thanks for the advice. All useful.

I think it is rather related to my newly-found unemployed status. Which has led to me wearing my favourite trainers more than usual. Leading to the .. ahem, well, problem.

New trainers, and make sure not to wear a pair two days on the trot, I guess is the answer.

Thanks again, I'll see whether this helps and if not then try something else. (I thought that Potassium Permanganate was purple, and would therefore stain the feet?)

I went through a phase a of minging feet from only wearing the same trainers non stop.
Baking powder in the socks cured it, I kid you not.
