Hi all

I am meeting halfway with some friends for dinner on a Saturday evening soon. Looking for somewhere nice but not very posh.

Does anyone have recommendations for a nice restraint or nice pub with food in Banbury or the surrounding countryside?

You could go to the Butchers arms in Priors Hardwicke. 15 miles from Banbury but a nice drive.

Silver service, traditional but very friendly.

Car nuts too.

I was going to suggest this, haven't been for ages. Is it still up to scratch now it's no longer controlled by the Pires Family?

Butchers arms is as good as ever. Lino sold to his restaurant manager who has made it a little more efficient for booking but still as relaxed as ever on the dining side.

You can still take an age over your meal and enjoy looking at the pictures in the gents :-)

Nothing fancy on the menu just quality ingredients, well cooked and served by waiters in bow ties.

Lino still hovers around of course but then didn’t he always.

The Boxing Hares, (used to be the Masons Arms) Swerford on the main road from Banbury to Chipping Norton, Excellent food..
Pickled Ploughman at Aynho is also good.

Thanks, I haven't been for 6-7yrs. I used to do a bit of business with Peter, "no sardines on Saturdays"

Hi,

Having lived around East of Banbury for nearly 20 years, it is close, but in order of preference:

1. http://www.theredlionculworth.co.uk/
2. http://www.thecrownweston.co.uk/
3. http://www.thestarinnsulgrave.com/

The Butcher's arms is excellent too, as others have said, but we've not been since it has changed hands.

You won't be dissapointed with any option. No vested interest.
