When the 570GT was launched and as soon as I had seen the spec I suggested on this site that Mclaren would be wise to combine the suspension and brakes of the 570S with the GT’s body to make the perfect 570 model, and that is exactly what they have now done.

You can now order the 570GT with the optional “S Handling Pack” for £4900. Plus the Ceramic brakes are now going to be standard on the GT as well as the S.

Will we see a spider version, I suspect so. The 570 is now pretty much perfect in its segment and way ahead of the competition

If they had launched the 570GT with this pack as standard, no one would have bought a 570S.

Yeah I mentioned a 570 "GTS" to the McLaren team years ago as the ideal combo.
Is the "S" pack just brakes and suspension or does it include "track pack" items like racing seats, spoiler etc..

What do you mean by see a spider version ? A GT spider ? How would that differ to the current 570S spider ?

I couldn't afford a GT, so I'd have still bought the 'S'....

Maybe I'm in a minority of 1, but regardless of cost I prefer the open flying buttress design of the 's' over the pebble-smooth GT.

Is this not just effectively a £16k glass roof? The 570s is £145k base, the GT £157k. Add in the £4k to add back in the 570S bits and it looks like a nice little earner for McLaren!

The GT came standard with steel brakes, slower steering, softer springs and less aggressive tires. Some commented that is was not as focused as the S.

So what McLaren have done is make the ceramic brakes standard on the GT now and offer the option of the S's suspension, and Corsa tires as the handling pack.

You will still need to option the sports exhaust if you want a little more noise but what you now have is the added practicality of the GT body and subjectively its better looks with the more dynamic chassis of the S. What’s not to love?

I could be wrong but I think the the spider has the GT's chassis set up, please correct me if I am wrong

My perfect car would be a GT "S" with track and handling pack and MSO exhaust in Ventura Orange

I drove the 570S and GT back to back on the same roads and the differences are noticeable. The S is sharper everywhere, faster steering is very apparent, better throttle response (possibly gearbox which has a different map), just better as a drivers car and more chuckable. However I also drove a GT for 200 miles in torrential rain where it was really planted, very, very good in the rain, perhaps a result of the softer set up? When driven in isolation its hard to tell the differences but back to back it is very obvious. However more practical the GT is not, We arrived in our 12C to swap into a GT for the weekend and could not fit the luggage from the 12C frunk into the frunk of the GT and there was not even space for it to split and go in the hatch and frunk.

I think the GT is the best looking current McLaren and like others here mentioned to McLaren that a GTS would be a no brainer. If that's what they have done then great, as long as they have carried all the 'S' components over, including the steering, suspension & gearbox map. If not then its not worth it. CCB i'm non-plussed about them, rather not have them.

However the big downside of the GTS is still its luggage capacity. Not as much as a 12C/650S (which are both smaller than the 570) which for touring is what you need. The 720S has even more luggage though. So as great as the GTS could be it would need all the 'S' components and not just some and still needs more luggage space for proper touring.

I had a GT for two months while waiting for my S.

GT is a lovely thing..........loved the roof and the cleaner lines of the rear end. Really enjoyed it...............until my S arrived.

You then realise that the GT is pretty subdued............heaps of sound deadening in it make it very quiet which I suppose is the intention...........I also realised that I'd not used the rear hatch once so that was of no benefit to me, plus I wouldn't like to have to lean against the car and lift my stuff into the back of it.

The S feels much rawer, louder and more urgent.............the GT can get the CCB's from the S..........but it will still be a different car for differing requirements.......the more stuff from the S you add in......the less of a GT it becomes, which is surely what it was launched to be?

At the end of the day what McLaren are doing is giving you choices which has to be great. You now have the chance to spec your GT in a way that replicates the dynamics of the S. It will still be quieter and have more luggage space but more focused as a road rocket.

The fact that McLaren is willing to listen to customers’ requests is to be applauded. Focus groups rarely give the customer what they really want

+ 1 great to see McLaren offer more choice in a short space of time.

Spoke to the McL guys at the launch of the GT and an 'S' version has been in the plan since Day 1. They're not stupid, they know their customer base.

But the GT was positioned in a certain way - softer, more comfortable, quieter than the 570S - from the off to give them a clear definition between models. As has been said they would've lost out on some S sales if this had come out straight away.

As it stands McLaren estimates that 60% of 570GT customers will choose the Sport Pack. As the 570GT already makes up 80% of 570 coupé sales you're looking at the vast majority of non-Spider cars being 570 GT-S's.

Didn't realise GT sales were as high a percentage as that - Makes you wonder why the 570S exists anymore ? I prefer the GT look as well as a sportier set up so a GTS works for me although I would prefer to go even further and have the track pack on it.
Will the sport series LT be based on the GT or S ?

It really makes you wonder why the 570S Coupe exists really, as the Spider offers everything with almost no downsides.

LT is definitely based on the 570S Coupe shape.

Yeah I agree about the spider, its like 3 cars in 1.
I've seen spy shot of sport series LT based on the 570S and it appeared to have a roof scoop which will be interesting and not repeatable in spider format. I wonder if it will be revealed at Geneva as I was expecting it around Q4 2018
