removing a mirror from a wardrobe door

Does anyone have any idea(s) on how to remove a mirror from a wardrobe door, obviously without breaking it?. it's about 6.5ft x 1ft long and seems to be just stuck on, albeit with very strong glue.

Whatever you do, take the door off the wardrobe first!

You could try taking it down your local friendly glazier and seeing if they could give you a hand. Not so many of those about these days though...

I once saw a couple of guys remove a similar size mirror which was siliconed to a piece of wood - after they had put it on incorrectly.

They obtained a long piece of thin wire (piano??) and using a sawing motion "cut" through the adhesive with the wire. It took them half an hour or so & they were very careful to cut on the wood side so as to not knacker the silvering on the edges.

I've tried this before - failed miserably!

In the end I decided it wasn't really worth the bother and it is possible to pick up full length mirrors for pretty cheap.

Just trying to save the mirror, I've chucked out the wardrobes, but saved the door with mirror. I like the dimensions of the mirror. I'm not superstitious (about mirrors anyway). It is a quality mirror, unlike the crappy 4yr old wardrobes...

why not cut the door around the mirror and have a nice backing to said mirror?

Along the piano wire theme..........I used a breadknife to remove ours.

Has the added bonus of giving a LITTLE leverage in between sawing too.

What you want is a wire saw as found in Rambo style commando knife handles in the late 80's

1) Throw it away and start again
2) How about painting/wallpapering over it?
