I've had an annoying problem with my work van for around 8 months now and I've decided I either need to fix it or replace the van.

Basically it slowly loses power upto 2500rpm over the course of say a week, to start with it just feels sluggish and struggles to get going in second and by the end of the week my foot is to the floor and I'm waiting for the revs to change gear and then riding the clutch a little to keep the rev's high otherwise it bogs down.

I had it plugged in and read but nothing really came up or at least nothing that could relate to the issue. The mechanic didn't want to touch it and said they can be a bag of worms which is understandable I didn't want to touch it myself being honest. I've replaced the MAP sensor, MAF sensor (siemens), checked all the pipes for leaks, checked vacuum, replaced air/fuel filter, turbo opening, etc etc Oh EGR is blanked off.

A few times it's gone into full limp mode where it refuses and rev at all. When it gets bad I usually unplug the maf and drive it while it's unplugged and it goes but obviously pretty horrible to drive, after doing this for a day the next morning I can plug the maf back in and the whole process starts again:- for that day it's like a brand new van, pulls really well, can get going in second, engine sounds happier and just generally nice to drive and it can be like that for a few days and then I get a bit of a flat spot at say 1000rpm and it generally gets worse and worse.

It's as if the ECU is overfueling and it takes that long for it to get the (wrong) information maybe?

Try driving it with the fuel filler cap removed.

I recently had an annoying (and intermittent) problem with loss of power. My 84-year-old neighbour suggested this and it worked!

The fuel tank breather was blocked.

Worth a try and doesn't cost anything! smile
