I currently have Pure Jongo S3 speakers around the house (obsolete I know, but I got them cheap a while ago) connected to Amazon Echo Dot 2’s. I recently heard a Sonos Play 5 (v2) which seems great and I fancy an upgrade - but not at £500ish a unit. I imagine Sonos have a ‘brand premium’ about them - does anyone have a recommendation for a similar unit at (say) half the price that I could consider, or am I asking for the impossible? Would like similar power/performance to the Sonos. Cheers, Simon.

Do you need a Play:5 equivalent? Would a Play:1 not suffice?

I have a Play:5 and three Play:1, all linked to the PlayBase and Sub. I think the Play:1 is a great little speaker for the price. I picked one up for around £134 a few weeks ago from Amazon.

I have a very similar setup . agree that the Play:1 is a very good speaker for the price .. why not get a pair ? .. even better.

My existing speakers are similar (ish) to the Play 1’s, although I don’t have a sub as Pure didn’t offer one, which probably makes a big difference - good call though I will go and have a listen. The Play 5 sounded like a thumpingly powerful good compact unit even without a sub, which is what drew me to it.

A pair of Play:1 sound fat better the an Single Play:3 and totally different to a Play:5 because of their left right separation.

Or Denon Heos as others have said.

I had not considered the Denons - Just had a look at Richer Sounds and see they are £300ish - another good call, will see if they can demo in my local branch. I would be after 4 units, so would be a useful £800 total saving over the Sonos, if they sounded as good.
