Morning all,

I was somewhat bemused to find that my lad's kit list for Secondary school this year rather bizarrely includes a second pair of underpants so that they have one to shower in after games, and then a dry pair to put on!

My initial thought was that this was maybe just some completely OTT way of ensuring the games teachers couldn't be accused of ogling their pupils' bits or anything like that, but talking to a mate last night, he said it's the same with the guys he plays rugby with. Those in their mid-thirties upwards just think nothing of stripping off in the changing room and jumping in the shower, whereas the guys in their twenties either go home to shower, or put on swimming trunks first!!

I'm not quite sure what to make of this? How and why do we seem to be creating new generations who think it's odd to strip off with members of your own gender in a changing room?

That sort of Prudishness causes the Problems in the first place. The Victorians have a lot to answer for especially as their "image" is a long way from the actual truth.

I've noticed the same thing too with younger blokes at the gym etc. The way I see it is if I'm in a changing room full of blokes and one of them wants to have a look at my cock and balls that's entirely up to him, I'm not going to lose any sleep about it. I reckon it's due to the whole "body image" thing.

For many years we've heard about teenage girls developing eating disorders because of airbrushed, skinny women in the media but I think there's a lot more of that kind of pressure on young lads these days too. With the advent of stuff like Tinder in which people will make an initial decision based on nothing more than a photo, the pressure to be physically attractive is stronger than ever.

I also think that's a big reason for the night-time economy in town/city centres taking a nosedive. In my day, it was a badge of honour to stroll up to a bar in town and get served at the age of fifteen then spend every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night for the next three years doing the "circuit" round town. Nowadays the kids are spending all their time down the gym getting in shape for their dating app pictures rather than going out and spending the thick end of a hundred quid getting bladdered and hoping that amorously sidling up to an equally pissed up lass on the dancefloor at 1am will get them a bit of action.

Laws put an end to that... long before my day. Hefty fines for anyone serving minors meant that if you were under 18 you didn't get served and even now if you look under 25 you still get asked for ID.

When I was 15, you needed someone to buy alcohol for you and would end up drinking it in parks.

But minors not being able to go into pubs are not the reason many night-time economies are suffering. Lockout laws, noise restrictions and complaints from old people who bought a house next to a pub and dont like the pub are more to blame.

In my gym the older blokes all prance around naked! Why can’t they put clothes on - I do not wish to see another man naked hehe

It was pretty much the same in my day although it was challenge 21 rather than 25. Which is why I did a roaring trade in rudimentary home-made fake ID's while I was in the sixth form (1997-99).

I suggest they spend some time in the gym with ex-army types. I used to go to the gym every day with 4 or 5 ex army lads and my god they were not right.
If you were doing up your shoes it was quite common for one of them to run over and fart in your face, fully naked for the full show, so to speak!
Taking a shower and you would hear "look down"..... needless to say I learned to get the shower furthest "up hill".
I wont even get into their nose blowing routines.

When I was a lad, I lived in a very small town (~2000 people) so everyone knew if you were underage, fake ID or no.

However a lot of parents took the approach of buying their children alcohol (to control the amount consumed).

Now days, with the fines on bartenders and landlords you'd never get away with it. I'm over 35 and still get asked for ID when buying buying alcohol in supermarkets (I take it as a compliment on my ruggard good looks).

We're the same age. I think I got I'D'd once or twice in the 2 years I was going out in Doncaster underage, every Wednesday and odd Tuesdays and Thursdays, VK 60p a bottle, those were the days.

Coming from a military background where I was once in a shower designed for 5 people with 35 crammed in cheek to cheek it makes me laugh when I see someone in the gym in trunks. The pool I go to has a communal changing area, which I have to remind myself of before stripping off.

It is a recognised thing, being 47 I am kind of in the middle, someone posted this in the gym moan thread when I remarked on seeing an older chap stood, leg on the counter drying his junk with a hairdryer. I am not remotely bothered about what anyone else is doing but some do seem to go hours having a shower, shave or whatever with it all out.

The new gym I am at has loads of swimming lessons for kids so there are loads running about and some blokes just walk about oblivious, in front of small girls, which is either deviant or a bit naive, it is the blokes changing room, bks may be seen but really, a little decorum and modesty wouldn't go amiss. Now I dont believe the kids will be remotely bothered but someone says something a world of pain could ensue.

There is definitely emerging a new era of puritanism.

Men lose their jobs or get prosecuted for brushing a woman's knee.
Youths under 21 are rapidly abandoning drink and drugs.
TV shows, films and newspapers are becoming heavily censorious.

Think it's partly due to the rise of "new" religions. And partly a reaction to the uncontrolled extremes on the Internet. But even that won't last -- a new era of online censorship is coming to the UK from May 2018.

Yeah, it's definitely the case.

When I was at secondary school, from 93 - 2000, it was always the weird kids that showered in their gym shorts or whatever after rugby. Everyone else just got on with it.

I train with a bunch of mid 20s Kickboxers a few times per week (good ones too) and they are all very very shy about their bodies.

What??? It's the blokes changing room. There's nothing remotely wrong with just carrying on as normal. If a dad chooses to bring his young daughter in with him, so what. He obviously isn't bothered, and I doubt she cares at all at that age.

To take that to the extreme, many moons ago my wife and I were in an air-side bar at Tampa International Airport, Florida.
I asked for a white wine for my wife, and a double Crown Royal for myself.
The barmaid said, “Do you have I.D.?”
My wife said, “Are you kidding? He’s almost 50!”
The barmaid replied, “Ma’am, with respect, I don’t care if he’s a Civil War veteran, Florida State Law decrees that I ask EVERYONE to provide I.D., no I.D., no service, sorry.”
