New users blocked from posting

so this morning i went to reply to something (and this happened the other day too) and it said new users are temporarily blacked from posting due to others trolling earlier in the day.

2 questions,

1. when am i deemed not a new user, ive been here over 6 months and have a healthy post count, so was a bit surprised by this.
2. what was this trolling and does anyone have links?!

Just a temp glitch, I wouldnt take it personally.


I suspect that any trolling activity would have been deleted.

By the way could anyone define what a troll is? The dictionary defines it as disruptive behaviour but on another forum there are are people who tarnish posters with the word troll if they simply disagree with their opinion or suggest a biased view.

I have even seen people get banned for calling another person a creep, justifiably so IMHO.

Trolling is the art of causing argument whilst feigning innocence.

Trolling is not:

• someone disagreeing with you
• someone saying something unpleasant

I'm going to ask an incredibly stupid question, but here goes

How do I create a new topic? I can reply to posts anywhere on the forum, but having never created a topic, I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it!

ln any given area of the forum, where you see a list of posts, there will be a "start new topic" button that is green at the top and bottom of the posts lists.

Press that!

I see the reply button when I'm within topics, but there is definitely no Start new topic button! I've turned off my adblockers etc in case it was that but genuinely can't see the option

Anyone who posts prolifically in their first month should be identified as a banned poster. There's a few popping up recently who are 'robust' with their posts

Click into the forum you want to post in and it is in a big green box at the top and bottom of the page, click on that.

Alternatively go to your nearest specsavers immediately

I've solved my own problem .. and I was being an idiot

I've been trying to start a topic within the wider sections ie "General Gassing" or "Pie and Piston" or "BMW" rather than "Car Buying" or "The Lounge"

thanks, but i see new posts from others whilst it says i cant post. there must be a definition of what constitutes a new user. could the mod who moved this maybe clarify?

There is a technical issue around users who have previously been banned (like you) and a protective state the forums can be put into to mitigate against spammers by restricting posts from "new users".

The technical team are aware of the problem.
