Reviewed by Andrew Frankel (718 GTS) and Simon Jackson (981 GTS). It's a shame they weren't both driven by the same reviewer frown

Andrew's 718 GTS review gives a slightly mixed message:

"Here is a Cayman that's as quick as a 911. At least."

"This six-speed manual is simply the best gearbox of its type in the world.....I don't like...that you cannot switch off (rev matching) in Sport mode."

"Engine? I'd still rather have the six. But by less now than ever before"

"This is what Caymans do for you and, GT4 aside, this is the Cayman that has that has done it best."

Simon's 981 review is more consistent:

"The package does lose a little in seven-speed PDK over six-speed manual form."

"More even so than some 911s I can think of right now, the 981 Cayman GTS feels like a beautiful swansong for the naturally aspirated era of Porsche cars - outside of those wearing GT dress."

"I'm not sure a 718 will ever live up to the driving experience provided by the 981 Cayman GTS - one of the finest Porsches of modern times."

Not that I'm biased in any way, you understand, but that Simon chap?

I've always had a huge amount of respect for his opinions, a brighter, more insightful unbiased reviewer of cars you'd be hard pressed to find.

What's in my garage? Why? Why do you ask?

I'll just say i've been very lucky in life, that's all.

I haven't got the magazine yet (on it's way) but I understood the 981 GTS was a white Boxster - not a Cayman??

No, it's this yellow 981 Cayman GTS with silver wheels and PDK provided by RPM Technik (now sold):

I think the article your thinking about is in 911 & Porsche World this month, which is quite a good review with plus and minus's for both sides of the argument.

If it would have had hydraulic steering I would have agreed, but the 987.2 have the 981 licked as one of the finest driving cars and the 718 has better brakes and steering. we need to make one car from the 3 :-)

I love the 981 GTS though it's a great car (Not for me but I 100% get the car) , I am not sure why people get upset when I day the 981 Spyder is like a GTS with a 3.8 and a stter roof.

That must be praise as the GTS is so good ;-)

modders delight the GTS you can get 370/380 BHP from it also with bolt on's a PDK GTS with 380Bhp would be crazy fast road car, if you only want one car in your garage a GTS hits the spot.

you can say that about all the GTS models Porsche GTS models are fine things. if I had the money a 991.2 GTS would be my daily.

I'll certainly be looking at tweaks for mine in a few years. Carrera S front brakes plus a bit more engine breathing to free it up a touch is all it needs. Not that expensive to do and it'll be perfect for my road-only use.

sounds perfect, the calipers are a straight swap on the 981 unlike the 987.2 brakes are an expensive hassle to swap. and as I said 380 BHP in one

win win keeper car.

Exactly - I have a parts list for the brakes, and like you say it's a straight bolt-on.

Engine stuff I need to look into more.

Ask Jens for his GTS PDF, he is very helpful, one hopes a UK outfit will take his kits on soon, he is asking for resellers.

it just so happens he has a full 2nd hand as new kit for sale for your car ;-)

Yes - my mistake, sorry. I expect the Cayman vs Cayman is the better comparison as there is a different feel to the Boxster. Difficult though as different journalists will have different views.
