Might sound a bit weird but I'm looking to find out if a toy/thing I used as a child is still available - or indeed what it was called so I can search for it.

Basically it was a kit where you could make plaster of paris hollow skulls and monster heads etc.

It had a machine roller base, a large plastic sphere that you inserted a mould into.

Plaster of paris was poured into the mould, mould place in centre of sphere and then sphere was sat on the motorised roller base.

The base turned and rotated the sphere and mould so the plaster coated the inside of the mould and once dry, a hollow skull or monster head or whatever was ready for painting.

Anyone remember these or what they are called?

Luke.

That brings back memories. I think there was a sort of voodoo shrunken head as well as a skull.

I have never seen one of those. Quite interesting.

I grew up in the 1980's and 90's, and the toys of our generation were frankly world-class.

It was a time when electronics began to be successfully integrated into toys, leading to things like Tamiya, petrol radio controlled cars, Lego Technic, Hornby digital, Computers, consoles, Go Karts...

Toys R Us was filled with amazing stuff like £300 remote controlled Caterpillar bulldozers that were nearly 2 feet long and had smoking exhaust stacks, and £2000 petrol engined minature Range Rovers that 2 kids could sit in and drive.

Now it's just filled with utter cheap ste and piles of plastic toys that won't last 6 months.

My childhood was the perfect storm of 'playing out' and the arrival of technology and electronics.

I realise I sound like an old man moaning that things were better back then... biggrin

I had several Bayko building sets, lethal if you had all the metal rods in place ready for the bricks and then managed to fall on it !!

Yeah I agree.

Thing is my youngest son is going through an 'artistic' phase and having progressed from colouring in the walls and sofa with felt pens and paint, he's ready for something else.

I remembered the joy of these toys and the fun I had with my dad making and painting them and thought it would be a great thing for me and my youngest to try.
