£6k to spend, i'll do 20k miles would you get?
Discussion
I need a car. I don't want to spend more than about £6000. I'll do about 17k on my commute (33 miles each way a day Monday to Friday, 5 miles b road and the remaining on the motorway). I may do about 3k a year personal miles but most of the time will use the partners car. I only need it until my Tesla model 3 comes hopefully March next year. Ideally something not a money pit, hold its value if possible. Not too concerned about mpg, though nothing crazy.
What would you get?

My OH has a Leon 1.6tdi DSG - it’s done 70k on a 120 mile daily commute without anything more than services / the odd oil top-up. Something similar?
Forgot to say I'd ideally like something a little fun.O/H had an A3 1.6tdi that was nothing but trouble, I admit the same could be said about any model but I'd rather steer clear of that specific engine.
In the absence of many requirements from the OP, how about this?

Not a bad recommendation.https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
Only other requirements I can think of:
I'd like cruise control but it's not a deal breaker
I wouldn't mind auto
I'm 6 foot 1
I'd like it to be comfy but also fun
I don't care how many doors
I don't care about practicality
Id rather it wasn't £500 a year tax
I'm 6'4" and never had an issue with either the mini nor the mx5 we had.
What about these:

BMW 3 series coupe, I had one briefly and enjoyed it but moved to a touring
edit petrol ones are a bit cheaper and I found mine (320i) wasn't actually too bad on fuel!

A CLC will fit the bill they're a decent steer won't lose loads (as long as it's well spec'd) especially as you'll probably see your model 3 in September from what I'm lead to (as Tesla is behind again on its year end quarter deliveries) believe.

This might work? Well priced, you wont lose money, and will proboaly get 40mpg out of it.

How confident are you the Model 3 will arrive in March? Based on historic problems with supply, it’s may be a bit longer. Have you factored that into your decision?
Also, why 6k? If you can afford more you could have a better car with a better and easier sales process the other end. I would be looking for a car I could use for this term and mileage with the minimal depreciation.
So 14k car down to 12k rather than maybe 6 down to 3....
Just thinking?

Yes, it's on my radar the model 3 dates could slip again, I just have a feeling, now they have actually stated a date for the first time on the portal that it might actually arrive sometime close to this date. Also, why 6k? My budget is driven by my desire to pay off some existing debt by the same time the model 3 comes, and 6k is what I have available without any finance, it's all part of a plan to be totally debt free by the time the Tesla arrives.
