So, I was watching Men Behaving Badly on some re-run channel and guessing what year it was.

At the end the credits revealed 1994..in Roman Numerals.

Why, I mean why do they still use Roman Numerals for dates in TV programmes? How many people these days can even read them?

Just got me wondering how much other pointless & stupid stuff rocks on for no (apparent) real reason.

Doesn't seem stupid to me.
Rather a shame that so much now is lowest common denominator.

Surely it's easier just to list the year?

I am, however, a lowest common denominator biggrin

Pick one of the following:
  1. It's easier than having numbers in multiple alphabets, i.e. Hindi
  2. To obfuscate the date, so old films don't seem dated so easily
  3. Because it's always been done that way

I saw a bit of the professionals today.

Bodie bought a bottle of larger and a vodka and orange for £1.35.

Then complained it was expensive !

Now that dates it.

Nothing dates a show more than a scene where drinks are bought, e.g. The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy (1978):

Ford: "Six pints of bitter, and quickly please, the world's about to end."
Barman: "Oh, yes sir? Nice weather for it. You going to watch the match this afternoon, sir?"
Ford: "No, no point,"
Barman: "Foregone conclusion you reckon sir? Arsenal without a chance?"
Ford: "No, it's just that the world's going to end"
Barman: "Oh, yes sir, you said. Lucky escape for Arsenal if it did".
Ford: "no, not really".
Barman: There you are, sir. Six pints"
Ford (handing over some money): "Keep the change".
Barman (very pleased): "From a fiver? Thank you sir".
Ford: "You've got ten minutes left to spend it".

Just as well it was too early for the bird behind the bar to have one or I reckon he would have been looking at over 2 notes...

Parcel delivery by the Royal Mail.

When Parcel Force (part of royal mail) tries to deliver a parcel but i'm out, they conveniently drop it off at the local post office which is around 1 mile away.

Yet when the Royal Mail tries to deliver a parcel and i'm out - they send it back to the sorting office, in the middle of the city centre 10 miles away. I wouldn't mind so much - but it isn't even our closest sorting office - we have one 5 miles away in a local town - but apparently that's not 'our one'.

Royal Mail do take our parcels to the local Post Office. Problem is, it's impossible to park there as very little of the road is devoid of yellow lines and the police hang around like vultures, clearly mindful of the revenue opportunities that this presents. Fortunately Amazon's delivery drivers (and pretty much all other couriers) have the sense to leave parcels in our nominated "safe place".

We have a nominated safe place, (our porch) instead of leaving it here they put a delivery slip though the letter box, in the porch. Parcel in garage, (our garage door doesn't open) not in immediate neighbours garages either. Several weeks later it's found, in a garage 3 doors down!

Why, just why.
