I use eBay like many other and have only ever had to return 2 things so inexperienced with the returns method system.

I bought a watch, an auto, 4 days later it started loosing time at night about 40/50m one night, and 30m 2 nights later

So I started a return, the seller accepted it, but I did not read the message he sent

Then got an email off eBay asking to update their system when I had posted it back.

So I duly got the sellers address off ebay, double checked it with PayPal.

Went to the post office and sent it special, took a pic with the address label on and the silver sticker and sent it to the seller

This AM, message from the seller "that address does not look night, where did you get it from"

So I went to return info, screenshotted it and included the pic from the post office to show exactly the same.

to which he referred to the message he sent when the return was accepted, that I didn't read which said, I need to update my address, when I've done that I'll send you the return label.

Whoops

Any way, RM attempted the delivery today but failed, its either been refused or a pick me up note left.

Luckily I have labeled it properly with my address as return so hopefully it will come back to me.

I will ring the post office its at 1st thing Monday to see of I can get it returned to me ASAP.

So what happens if the watch goes AWOL now, Royal Mail have it in their depot, and hopefully they wont let someone with missed you card take it with out showing ID, they do have to show ID for collection from the depot even with a missed you card right?

Does any one know what eBay will do if it does get lost?

More to the point, what happens if it gets sent to the wrong address?

RM loses the item, you claim off them, eBay closes the case as you failed to return the item.

RM returns the item, you send it to the correct address.

Someone accepts the delivery at the wrong address, bad for you.

I believe the seller is in breach of paypal terms and conditions by not updating his address. Asking for goods to be returned to a different address is not acceptable practice. Contact the Royal Mail first thing on Monday and have them return your package to you. If it gets lost your best remedy will be with Paypal assuming that is how you paid for the item.

His message, that I missed

said he would update, and then organised the return label

But as I said, I did not read the message

but an interesting defense than might work

He should have updated when he moved house.

You would have been in bother if you had sent it to the ‘non verified’ address which they (or a scammer) mailed you.
You followed the rules.They didn’t.
Bit tricky though.
Raise case with Ebay & let them sort it out, that’s what you pay fees for
