94 chim 4.0V8 - info please
Discussion
i'm considering a 94 chim 4.0 V8.
Can anyone shed some light on running characteristics, known maintenance issues and general engine and performance data?
what to look for if viewing one, how much to pay - what service history, condition etc to expect for £10K.
The V8, any issues?
Just researching, was hoping you guys could save me a headache and avoid a money pit.

bloody amazing!
known maintenance issues
check the chassis, outriggers and wishbones
general engine and performance data
more BHP than you can shake a stick at and 0-60 in less than most 4 wheelers you'll come across
what to look for if viewing one
HPI, service history, mileage, smell of the carpets (is it a leaker?), HPI, general condition bearing in mind its over 10 years old, fabric hood and roof panel cover
how much to pay
Look in PistonHEads classified - lots of reference points there
what service history
present for all years but not necesarily from a main dealer - but do check on who has looked after it recently - give the garage a call and talk to the service manager
condition etc to expect for £10K
be reasonable in your expectations and do check the insurance quote before you sign up.

noise can be troubling if you keep going through the same tunnel over and over again. Check temperature on a long run and on standing - ensure fans cut in. Check for valve gear clatter (250-400 pounds for replacement) and also top-end ticking that usually indicates signs of exhaust manifold leak(s). Generally the v8 is very reliable
hey thanks!
i drive a turbo 4 pot at the mo - awd and 240-250 bhp ish. 14.1 second standing Qtr mile, no internal or fueling mod's.
it seems the 4.0 is roughly the same power with a slightly quicker time due to the weight - my gt4 has 400kg's more, thats almost half the weight of the Chim again!!
what about FI application V8's is this extremely expensive to achieve?
ive allready played with nitrous but would want full time FI on a car of this calibre.

You're meant to direct this into the induction side of the engine not sniff it up your nose! The v-8 is Fuel-Injected unless I'm missing the point or the acronym!
edited to add that I just realized that forced induction is also FI

We`ve got a 94 Chim and have just been able to get it on "classic" insurance with 5k mileage allowance - classic also means it won`t swallow your no claims bonus if you have a "day" car!
Oh yeh, make sure it`s got good history, check out riggers, manifolds, no diff whines etc (keep the hood up for this when driving as it`s easier to hear if there is a whine), mileage is less important than condition IMO
