I have just spoken to my insurers following a number of thread enquiries regarding my limited mileage policy I have on my 911.

I have been informed that 6000 miles is the maximum mileage any of their classic policies cater for and therefore my only options are thus:

Stop using the car once I have completed my alloted miles. Uhhhhhh, no thanks! :frown:

Pay for another years insurance after say 9-10-11 months. Bit of a pain in the wallet but might be the only option. :frown:

Put the car in the garage for however long it takes to reach the renewal once Im met my mileage limit. :frown:

I can see why this is like this but you'd have thought there would be some flexability. All I need to do now is check and see whether I have actually declared what my exact mileage was at the outset of the policy...
If not

have you tried other insurers or contacted the owners club they usually do preferential rates for club members, might get a cheaper quote for unlimited milage

Speak to a different insurer. Not that difficult really, and certainly no insurer ive ever met has had customer service good enough to justify loyalty in the face of differing premiums.

When i was looking for insurance for my modified car my neighbour suggested i try a broker in town. They came back with a quote twice what I had been offered elsewhere, i told them this and they said 'ah yes, but we make sure the policy has no dodgy clauses in the small print and we handle all communications'.

I politely informed them that if all they were going to do for £400 was read some small print and make a few phone calls id do it myself thanks.

I am with Lancaster and 7,500 miles P.A. at £407 premium.

I switched to Lancaster after RH wouldnt cover me above 5,000 miles at £375 premium.

except www.msminsurance.co.uk ...

They insure classics, kit cars and smarts, deal with people on first name basis, customer service is 11/10, and I was happy to renew when their quote was £10 higher than the cheapest on confused.com

The only solution to having lots of cars. Clocking by hand is a very tedious patience testing experience, a friend once said.

I've got a 1500 mile policy on my jeep, well a part of MY small print is that I have to play silly buggers with it once in a while.

5000 miles at £207 per year, they only check mileage in the case of a claim, and then only by MOT certificate

Im going to go and check my docs now and see what they say (if the mileage is listed). I didnt feel I could blatantly ask what mileage they thought I started with...Might have been a little obvious what my intentions were...

Im going to have a word with a few more insurers when it comes to renewal...although these guys were very competative. Now I come to think of it, Im a member of the PCGB now so I should get an additional discount from them too!!!

When I took my insurance out, its only with Elephant with 5k miles a year,
I called to update details and said to customer service I thought I had nearly used up my 5k miles, she said she had no record of what miles I started policy with,
So how can they keep a check on this?

Does this all go on a database that insurance companies check on?

It means something like utmost good faith.

Imagine you had a monster accident. If the insurers probed hard enough (fnar fnar) & they discovered that you'd materially overrun they would not pay out.

(MOTs, service records etc etc would show true mileage)
