What is it with insurance companies? Have been hunting for renewal quotes, and these are some of my experiences, together with names of companies where relevant for other people to be aware of.

1) More Than want to do a credit-check before they'll quote! How dodgy?!?
2) Direct Line tried to tell me that braided brake hoses increase the power of the car! (Yes, seriously - the guy argued that "they can in some cases")
3) A few told me that non-fault claims count as a risk...one told me that it doesn't matter whether they're fault or non-fault!
4) Another wouldn't quote because "I was under 32" (I'm 30...has anyone heard of a worse excuse - it's not even believable!)
5) A 4th hung up on me as soon as they picked the phone up (not a mistake...exactly the same thing happened with them last year).

And this industry is regulated??? Obviously not strongly enough.

Yeah - read that one Steve...and then made sure I didn't ring them!

As for swearing? Only once - at the More Than supervisor (I don't swear at the agents, even if they're crap). Gave her plenty of opportunity to recover the situation beforehand, but 5 minutes later:-
M: "But if the credit check is only to determine what interest rate to apply to the payments, then if I pay it in full up-front, there will be no interest, so you don't need to do it!?! Simple logic."
Her: "Our policies are... [feel free to switch off here - I did!] ...for ALL quotes"
M: "Then your policies are inappropriate and unnecessary!"
Her: "Our policies are there...[sorry, fell asleep again]....................."
M: "What makes more than so fg special?!?!?"

Jobsworths - won't even admit their policies are pointless and unnecessary in the face of certain logic!

The main problem is that NU, who I've been with for 2 years, are now almost totally India-based. And I've gone blue in the face before trying to explain "braided brake hoses" to them (I appreciate English is their 2nd language - my gripe is with NU the company, not the agents) - can you imagine if I made any more complex modifications -
"It's a lightened flywheel"
"No no no sir, you have a car, not a plane!"
