Hi all,

I have a 62 plate manual transmission 520d and occasionally when I engage the clutch I will hear a noise what I can only describe as sounds like an owl hooting very quietly... It's quite enough that when it happens I have to turn the radio to almost 0 to hear it.

The strange thing is, it doesn't happen everyday and when it is happening it isn't on every clutch press, I've also noticed it sometimes when I let go of the accelerator after accelerating.

To add: This only happens when accelerating and I think I've only heard to when going from 1 > 2 or 2 > 3 but never any higher gears and I've never heard the noise when going down gears i.e 5>4>3 etc..

Part of me thinks (hopes) this noise is normal and is most likely the turbo letting out air pressure from when I accelerate?

Has anybody had anything similar to this happening? It's difficult to get it looked at as the noise isn't always there.
