An unassuming amateur astronomer forever linked to one of the greatest comets in modern history has passed away. Thomas Joel Bopp, the co-discoverer of Comet Hale-Bopp, died January 5, 2018, in Phoenix, Arizona, from liver cancer. He was 68 years old.

RIP.

It was such an amazing sight for me as a teen. I clearly remember friends not giving a crap about it, but me, I just looked at it every chance I could.

I was India when it was in the sky, went up to one of the hill stations with zero light pollution. Totally amazing sight.
