Boring I know but just had a leaflet through the door which states that any E111 issued before 19th August 2004 is no longer valid unless it has an expiry date at the bottom saying 31st December 2005.
New EU law bla bla bla.

So that's me off down the post office and most of you I suspect.

As a result of recent changes to European law a new
E111 form (to claim medical treatment entitlement) has
been introduced to replace the old one. If you are
planning to travel to the countries concerned during
2005 you should apply for the new E111, as the old
ones are only valid until 31st December 2004.

If you have an E111 dated prior to 1st Jan 2005, you
will need to get a new one in order to use it in
Europe this year. At the same time, you can also apply
for a European Health Insurance Card which will
replace the E111 on 1st January 2006.

For this you will need to complete form CM1:-
www.dh.gov.uk/assetRoot/04/08/76/14/04087614.pdf

and also complete the new E111 :-
www.dh.gov.uk/assetRoot/04/09/25/81/04092581.pdf

Complete both forms, take them to the post office, where they will stamp the E111 to validate it and take the CM1. Your new European Health Insurance Card will be sent to you before the end of the year.

Does this mean they have changed it again? Last summer I went away, and I remember thinking it was good because I thought they had changed it so that you didnt need a new one each and every year, or time you went away... Only every few years or something. Oh well
