Need a New Family Bus for no more than £15K
Discussion
I have had a Skoda Superb for the last 2 years, it has been fantastic but is going back at the end of Feb, so I need to find a replacement. It will be used by me to get to and from work and as the main family bus for 2 adults, 2 teenagers + dog + bikes etc (on roof)
The requirements are, max £15k, Estate, Auto, 45mpg+ no more than 5 years old.
On my list so far are a BMW 5 Series Touring SE approx 2014 or a Volvo V70 again approx 2014 or maybe a bit newer, Mercedes E Class ( not a lover of Merc but it ticks alot of boxes) I could go down the SUV route with an XC60 or Honda CRV but wont be such a nice place to be on longer journeys.
Can I have your experience or suggestions.
My favourite so far is something like https://www.ccs-carsales.co.uk/vehicle-details.asp?ID=6229338

The BMW 5 series diesel is a nice place to be, it might be best to avoid the pre 2013/14 4 cylinder diesel. The 6 cylinder version has a much nicer engine. If you feel the need to take it to the main dealer for service and repairs, they are expensive to maintain. It's a heavier car than your last one, 45 mpg consistently, might be a struggle.
On your budget, you could get a very nice Merc. Drive one to see if it pleases you. Many Merc owners would not buy another brand. I had one and I probably won't buy another!
Skoda? Seat?
I'd halve the budget and buy something that uses more fuel, depreciates less and makes me smile more.

Going to look at a Volvo V70 D5 tomorrow, under budget, always wanted a D5 Volvo
Lovely cars. Big, squashy seats, loads of room inside, super-relaxing on the motorway.Just don't expect it to be a hoot in the twisties - they only really like being hustled in a straight line.

For me it would be hard to look past one of these:

I realise the above is over budget but haggle hard & you should get very close to your number.
Or go for a Titanium:

ut the Volvo is a decent car too.
