Hey guys,

Been a bit of a lurker to PistonHeads coming from Rennlist (I'm from Hawaii) - fortunate enough to be taking delivery of a 991.2 GT3 (my first ever GT car) in three months. Doing euro delivery in April and then expect the car to be in the US by June.

I wanted to post some questions on here as I figured for you guys outside of the US, you'll have more experience with the foldable sport bucket seats since we don't get that option in the US anymore with the 991 generation. Any input/opinions are greatly appreciated.

My car is coming with the standard 4-way Sport Seats Plus (sofa seats) as my GT3 won't see too much track time opposed to being a daily driver and for canyon drives on the weekends (can't afford to have more than one 911 for the time being!).

The 918-style LWBS that we get in the US just didn't suit what I was looking for when I had the chance to sit in them for a little bit: the seating position was too upright, the seat itself felt a bit "concave" which put some pressure on my lower back/made me feel slumped a little bit, and for my build (6 feet 170 pounds) I didn't feel as snug in the seat as I would have liked. Rear access is also much more difficult because the seats don't fold for times where I need the extra storage space. Also getting in and out of the seats was a bit tiring of a procedure, from plopping into the seat past the bolsters, to trying to get out of the car over the bolsters.

I found out that Suncoast Parts (a Porsche dealership/nationwide parts supplier) can sell the OEM 997 GT2 foldable sport bucket seats brand new and that other Rennlist members had successfully fit the seat to their 991 GT3. They are pricey at $12,000 USD but I really like the all leather look and for the fact they fold.

The questions I have are:

1) Is there any difference in the foldable sport bucket seats offered on the 997 GT3/GT2 and current 991 'rest of world' GT3s?

2) I tried researching on comfort for these seats compared to the full LWBS which my body couldn't get comfortable in. I've heard that the foldable "sport bucket seats" recline angle is a little bit less upright and more snug around the legs? Can anyone verify that or comment as to the comfort of the sport buckets vs full buckets?

3) Is getting in and out of the car as difficult for the foldable buckets compared with LWBS? I would guess that its a bit better since I read that the foldable buckets sit a bit higher, so there is less of a "plop" you need to make getting in the seat, unless the bolsters are also sitting higher?

I don't really *need* to make this switch as the 4-way seats are actually great in my opinion, but I love the "Alcantara delete" with the foldable buckets and they seem like a great compromise between the 4 ways and the full buckets that we get in the US: they look much better than the 4 ways, and apparently on Rennlist people find the foldable buckets much more comfortable than the 918 style full buckets.

I guess when purchasing a car for this kind of money anyways, "necessity" and perhaps "sanity" go out the window....

Thanks for the help/comments!!

Sammy from Hawaii

P.S. If anyone interested here is my build:

GT Silver (my favorite Porsche color - my 2017 C4 is in the same color)

PCCB
FAL
Extended Tank
Chrono/Wart
Leather wheel/shifter
Carbon trim for standard interior

Hi Sammy

Can’t help with 1 although I am sure someone here will. On 2, the backs are adjustable so there are definitely more options to get comfortable. They are definitely closer fitting around the bum / leg area and feel very secure. On 3, the LWBS are height adjustable so you have some opportunity to adjust to suit. The folding have smaller bolsters so I found them easier to get in and out of.

My suggestion would be to try your sofas for a while and if you like them, stick with them. Very comfortable and for road use you don’t need more. If it’s the cosmetic appeal or because you just want them, see if you can try them before you buy. I tried a few different seats and struggled as none felt immediately comfortable which is odd as my previous experience has been all Porsche sports seats have been great. Everyone is a different size etc so tough one to call.

If getting the fixed-buckets is still an option, Autoquest do a seat angle adjuster bracket which many have said alleviates most of the issues with the seats. Do a search on Rennlist for more info. They are something like $125/seat

I'm considering the adjusters for the LWBs on my T build but am struggling to find anyone local to get a sit in them

It's hard to say what you might like, I really dislike the LWBs and have speced the Folding buckets, that's about all I'll say on it.
I fit like a glove in the folding Buckets, so that's what I speced.

Likewise; I also found the folding buckets more comfortable and practical than the lwbs.

However, it's impossible to advise on seat comfort because we are all different sizes with differing requirements.

Out of interest, have you tried or do you think that the seat angle adjusters might help?

I am sure they would help , but the LWB is for fatter people imo and also tilting the seat would put pressure under the knee area.#
My arse is a tighter fit in the Folding, I rattle about in the LWB so even if it were tilted it would feel a big seat.

I know seat height adjust is an issue for most but I am long in the leg and short body so sit low in cars anyway.

My GF likes the LWB as she has it full up, but then moans there is no heating, so no win win with seats.

That should be one of the requirements to secure an allocation. "If your overweight you do not get a GT".

Thanks for the input everyone, my main goal was just to read/hear about your experiences with the foldable sport bucket seats since I have none... I know that it's very subjective and different from person to person in terms of comfort, but if there is a consensus one way or another that might be saying something....

The LWBS just was not comfortable for me and my build, maybe I'm "too thin" but the seat was just too upright, too low over the bolsters that you have to really "plop" in them, and a bit concave which was hurting my lower back a bit, needed more lumbar support maybe. I thought about the adjusters but just want to keep it OEM and not chance the $5000 on the seat, although in retrospect I could have spec'd them and then sold them if I wanted to get the foldable... oh well won't complain!

+1. Folding are more comfortable and are perfect for me as opposed to LWBS. But each to their own.

Thanks - that's the consensus that I'm hearing and I'm leaning towards getting them once my car arrives in the US smile

I've had a 991.2 GTS with the 4 way seats, and they are very comfortable. The only issue is you can't adjust the angle of the seat base, only its height, so you have to make do with the non adjustable seat squab angle. If you can still change your spec, then the 18 way adjustable seats have a bigger range of adjustment.

I've had 991 GT3s with foldable buckets, and then a 991RS and now a 991.2 GT3 with fixed buckets. I prefer the fixed buckets, but as others have mentioned, its a personal thing (much like a road bike saddle..!) I'm sure you've already read that the foldable bucket can be optioned with seat heating, but it isn't height adjustable unlike the fixed bucket. Also, the foldable bucket does mean you can get stuff into the back. But I chose the clubsport pack with roll cage, so there isn't much room in there anyway..!
