Maximum speed for cars = NSL + 10mph
Discussion
An individual writes in a newspaper today supporting T2000's call for Top Gear to be taken off our TV screens.
Obviously a frustrated censor.
They go on to suggest that governments worldwide should limit the top speed of cars to 10mph over the limit.
So an infinite top speed in Germany then!
Another suggestion was that the UK government should unilaterally limit the top speed of cars here to 80mph.
Of course, that would mean senior police officers might be late for meetings, and 'advanced drivers' in the police could not test Vectras to their maximum!
Sheesh!

Not to mention several times the number of deaths, these idiots have absolutely no concept of what makes roads safer. They have a one fix fits all mentality...lower speed.
IIRC 42% of all accidents are rear enders, and another 40% are overshoots at junctions, followed by all the other categories in diminishing percentages. Of these, 93% occur well within the speed limit (which also fits in with the official statistic that 93% of all accidents occur within the posted speed limit too).
The really interesting thing is that of the 7% of accidents that happen above the posted speed limit, the causes of those accidents in percentage terms are the same as those for vehicles travelling within the speed limit. 42% rear enders/40% overshoots followed by drunks, vehicle failure, being a plonker etc.

If the limit was 80mph, you'd just have MORE people trying to sustain that speed to make up the time lost by not going a bit faster for instance.
Ie, leaving it too late to get over to pull off a motorway etc, cutting up trucks or other drivers.
If people pass their driving test, they should have the brains to drive right in their heads. They should be trusted to not drive un-safely.
If they can't be trusted in that manner, then why are they being allowed to pass the test in the first place?

Not at all seriously but ....
Scenario:- Motorway limit set to 140 mph.
How long before we had a poster saying, either
"Do you know what, yesterday there was some bimbler in lane 3, the idiot was only doing 138 mph, wtf"
OR:-
"Just been stopped for 155, do you think if I nominate my mate in Chile as the driver it will go away?"
Just wondered.....
Pls note smileys!!!!!

I see no need for a motorway limit at all. Speed in excess of that which is sensible for the conditions == driving like a 2@ and is prosecutable anyway. Just because a camera can't detect it doesn't make it less so.
