Anyone bought a classic car from France?

I've seen an old LHD Triumph for sale in France, about 40 miles inland from Calais/Boulogne that is interesting me. Thing is, its a non-runner, requiring restoration.
Anyone bought a classic car from France and permanently exported it out of the country? Much red tape? Seller mentions a "grey card" with it. Hasn't been on the road since 1990 or thereabouts
If I bought it I'd be shipping it to the USA so a French port with transatlantic shipping would be needed.
Any info appreciated.

Carte Gris - "grey card" - is the French registration doc.
It's changed (used to be departmental, now it's national) since I last bought something over there, but basically there was a bit that he sends back to say "No longer mine", and he gave you the other bit to register it in your name.

I have the chance of a free 1979 Mini in France but it has no Carte Gris. Any ideas how I could bring it to UK & register it here? Should fit in the back of a van, if you don't want to put it on a trailer...Registering it will just need proof of age - Heritage certificate's the obvious route for something BL-family. Then it's NOVA within 14 days of physical import, insure, MOT, V55/5, tax money + reg fee, sit back and wait.
