One week work experience - Foreign Commonwealth office?
Discussion
I don't work there but my work takes me into contact with them and various other related departments.
The FCO is very oversubscribed for all placements and I'm fairly certain that work experience won't be catered for due to the nature of their work (I may be wrong on this).
If your daughter is looking to pursue a career in international civil service / diplomatic roles, then a more likely available route would be with embassies. Contact the embassies in the UK of commonwealth countries to see what they might be able to offer. Doesn't have to be commonwealth nations but you are likely to get a more responsive ear.
Beyond that is the Department for International Trade. Find you local office and contact them.
There's also DFID and the international development agencies and institutions such as the EBRD (based in the City).
One thing to note that any government placing will likely involve some probing background checks so if you have anything in the wardrobe you'd rather stay there......!
Good luck.

From memory, I think the Cabinet Office might well run something along those lines (Movement to Work scheme?) or else I'm getting so ancient that the whippersnappers there wholook younger every time I go in are actually adults...
The vetting for these things is unlikely to be more than a baseline/counter terrorist check.

10yrs ago I would’ve been your man - the girl I lived with had a brother who was a medium-sized cheese there. Alas for you, but for the great benefit of my mental health, we are no longer together, but I digress.
As I understood it the whole place was very heavy on ex-public school bods, whom I presume get first dibs on such gigs. My brother-in-law-that-never-was hailed from Marlborough College so he fitted right in.

My daughter (15 years old) has been tasked with finding a work experience for June/July.
She would like to spend a week at the Foreign Commonwealth Office in London.
I am struggling to find anything online - does anyone on here work at the FCO who could help?
Many thanks.
I have a good friend who works there, I've dropped her a message to ask about the feasibility of arranging this for your daughter, will post here when I get a reply. She would like to spend a week at the Foreign Commonwealth Office in London.
