Hi

Recently bought a BMW 320D M sport Xdrive.

Unfortunately hit a kerb on the left side as my vehicle skid off ice on the motorway. The pictures show illustrates the damage done.

Wonder how much is the total estimate of the cost to repair?

Ive got quoted £1600 excluding VAT.

Workshop said they will only replace the skirt and the rest of the parts repaired.
Is this overpriced?

If you are close to Gatwick I can recommend a body shop we used to get our Merc ready to be sent back. Faultless repair and perfect paint.

I also know of an excellent bodyshop that often repair supercars and could help you get a very competitive price. Can you confirm where you are based?

I'd go first to local BMW dealer, assuming they have a bodyshop. They may be pricey (though to be fair, mine weren't) but they should give you a thorough assessment and a price for an optimum repair. Your damage seems higher up the bodywork, than hitting a kerb - or did you mean barrier - but hitting kerb could surely at least knock wheel alignment out of kilter so it may be beneficial for BMW to check car over and make sure it's driving okay.

In any event you can benchmark their quote against other bodyshops. Always pays to get a few quotes.

I can't see any quote being much lower than what you've been quoted although that's only based on minor damage (slightly less than yours) which I've incurred over the years. I've no expertise, per se.

I would have thought this would be an insurance job, surely in which case select BMW as your preferred repairer to get a warrantied good job.

I cant go via the insurance route as my excess is $3000.

Ive sent the mechanical works to an independent garage near my city, i wonder if this was a mistake? Do i really have to go to a BMW garage for mechanical repairs?

For the bodywork, ive just got estimated quotes from the John Clark BMW near me and he quoted me a ridiculous amount.
And worst part they arent replacing any parts with new except for the skirt, is it that expensive just for labour and paint? Im not an expert and its my first time repairing a BMW so i need some advice on this.

Are there another option to this as im going to pay it out of my pocket?

You don't have to go to BMW, but cautious on any repairer not using genuine BMW parts as that could invalidate your warranty, if you have one.
Although as this is body work repairs, I don't think there's any mechanical?

I was thinking more of using BMW as a way of checking over car make sure there's nothing more sinister and it seems you've done that with J/Clark.

I don’t have a warranty on it anymore.
The Mechanic told me he would have to replace some parts with geniune BMW ( the hub and the suspension arm) while the rest wouldn’t need to be from BMW.
I’m not sure if I should be concerned with this?

I would definitely shop around for bodywork quotes and probably go to Jclark for a full vehicle assessment, reason why I didn’t go to them in the first place Is because they charge 100 quid just for inspection.
