Help X3 E83 3.0D 2008 Stalling

Hi,

I've only owned it a month and it started stalling today (after 10 metres driving) with the missus and baby in, luckily she was in a supermarket carpark so was OK until i arrived (car had been stood for 4 hours, run for 15 mins, left for 40 mins then this all started)

I started it and let it run for a few mins then drove round the carpark, idling seems ok but when i engage drive the revs drop intermittently and it feels like its about to stall and some anti-stall(?) kicks in with a surge in revs. i nursed it home putting it into neutral in traffic, the problem seemed to lessen as the engine warmed up.

No lights on the dash and i don't have a diagnostic reader. Serviced about 3000 miles ago where it had a new fuel filter. i think its the M57TU2D30 engine according to wikipedia.

Any ideas on what could be the fault ? and any pointers on who to take it to , TWG , BMS and Munich power are all close(ish) to me.
