987 Boxster Spyder buying advice

Looking for advice on buying a 987 Spyder. Looked at the cars for sale at Cameron Sports Cars and Park Lane Motors Alton like both.... which one do you guys like. And which of the others on PH do you think should look at. Also any thoughts on the ceramic breaks. Going to pull the trigger on a car in me t week or so

Everyone has their own preferences but I’d say a 987 Spyder is at it’s best in white, manual gearbox with SS, buckets and PSE, anything extra on top of that is a bonus...
Maybe I would say that as thats what mine is/has, plus PCCBs and a bit more leather. I wouldn’t say it’s worth paying more for a car with them, but as long as you don’t damage them in an accident or some muppet doesn’t chip/crack them when taking a wheel off for whatever reason (which is hard but certainly possible) then it’s hard not to see the benefit when they could quite easily last 100k miles... Are they a better performing break than steels, not really.
You should take a look at this car. Owned by two PHers, I nearly bought it last year when it was sold buy an OPC, but was pipped to it! Still has over a years Porsche warranty left on it.

PCCB every time if you can get them, because the brakes are the worst thing about the Car, people will try and fix poor brakes with GT3 MC (lol) but they over heat so it just masks a bigger problem, the PCCB on this car has the 6 pot 996GT3 calipers, so if you don't like ceramic disks, just buy some steels
to convert this car to 6 pots would cost you £££ and I mean >£7k for both ends upgraded.
So PCCB is a win win a free upgrade worth thousands imo and fixes the weakest link, poor brake heat management , fading brakes etc !!! as you can now fit 350MM steels and have the 6 pots from a GT3 !
PDK is a free choice of course , but you will never sell it on , that's ok if its a keeper and that's what you want, but it's a dead duck on this car for resale.

The Cameron Sports Cars car looks good.
I've had a few nice cars over the years and the only one I regret selling is my Spyder, loved that car and the V10 R8 that replaced it couldn't match the feel good factor. I will buy another one at some point to add to the garage.
The only thing worth adding from my experience was that I had the carbon bucket seats and found them really comfortable but my wife hated them and could never get comfortable. We did one Euro tour together which she complained all the way, she never came away in the Spyder again....... shame ....

In relation to the 987 spyder the PDK is simply not the box to have in terms of overall desirabilit, just like not having buckets... Absolutely nothing wrong with the box, as mentioned it’s personal choice, but PDK spyders sell for less, hang about on forcourts for longer etc. A good car dealer will make a turn on most vehicles and not every punter is the same, so of course they’ll give them a go. So if you are looking for some summer fun and could be in and out of the car within a few months then you can expect to find it harder to shift your spyder and you’ll be likely to lose more money if it is PDK. anonymous said:

ks though, there is one PDK OPC car for sale no manuals, and many 3rd party dealer PDK's for sale and have been for months !!With the R there are about 12 PDK cars for sale , only 2 manuals and 4 OPC PDK cars for sale and NO Manuals.
997 GTS just about all PDK car stuck for sale and have been months , manuals last days if not hours unless Hexagon get to price them.
Dealers are stuck with cars and don't always know the market sorry to say, which is good if you plan to sell a PDK car to a dealer ;-)
PDK out sell new car sales, this market is fickle and the manual cars are the sellers.

Same with the 997 GTS no manual cars for sale bar Hexagon and about >15 PDK cars.
Ashgoods only have PDK cars left, 4 of them ! .
But lets not open our eyes, of course if you talk to a dealer they will say they PDK sell well that's all they have for sale lol

What R says about manual gearbox cars is totally true in my opinion. I bought my manual 997 GTS from an OPC two years ago (this is before Hexagon got hold of the GTS) when if anything they were at a small discount to PDK cars. I put a deposit down not having seen a picture and before the dealer had prepped it having missed out on 9ne a couple of m9nths previously. Since the any manual GTS half sensibly priced hasn’t remained on the market for more than a few days. Manual cars are now at a circa 10pct premium and I’ve read more than once on here that people who have a 991 and then go back to a 997 because they prefer it “as a 911” find the PDK box the one thing they don’t like about the 997. In a year’s time the PDK in 997/987 will be two generations from the latest gen PDK and will start to really date in my opinion....the PDK and the PCM are the two things that date this generation of car....the latter can be fixed, the former can’t.
Well I’ve gone and pulled the trigger on the white one and a PDK at that so guess I will now be an outcast on these forums ??. Have owned and driven both manuals Cayman S and GT4 and PDK 911, Boxster and Cayman and have enjoyed both transmissions immensely even drove a TIPTRONIC not something I would want to do again!! Sorry but Porsche’s of all varieties put a smile on my face as soon as I sit in the seat or even on the odd occasions the chairs that some cars fitted in them. Must admit the buckets in this car are very comfortable and can’t wait to get driving. Having done Stelvio in a manual I agree they’re a fantastic machine but also having toured with a PDK for several thousand miles across Europe the driving is so easy. So now have to start planning the first of my 987 road trips . Hopefully I won’t be shot down too quickly for not going PCCB and buying a PDK and be celebrated for going white not black... anyways will post pics when collected and out on our travels

all 3 cars sell faster and are rarer in manual form and as both made the same number about 100 each PDK and R and SPyders why are PDK cars all stale sales ?

That’s really interesting.. and as I’m starting to talk to dealers now about selling my car I’d like to be fully prepared obviously for a low part exchange..Could you share your detailed analysis over say the past six months on the trade in / buying and selling cost differences and patterns between PDK and Manual Cayman R’s please... That would be really useful...
