Looks like 987 Spyder prices are broadly similar to what they were in 2011 (new prices) Does anyone remember if they were on sale at list price plus when new? I am trying to make a best guess as to where 981 spyder prices are going to be in three years, ie similar to new list or similar to where they are now.

you need a crystal ball ~ but i would think that if the mileage is comparable , in 3 years time there will be a similar gap to what we have today.money is safe in either car.

987 were selling new at under list, they were a hidden gem, didn’t sell to start with

I think it will depend on what engine they put in the next Spyder, if it’s a turbo then 981 prices will hold firm if it’s a detuned gt3 lump they will fall

In late 2011 new pre registered delivery miles cars were selling 20% under list ( inc. extras) and second hand cars continued to fall over following year to about 40% under list! I know I bought a new one cheap and it recently sold for a lot more than I paid . But as said different market/economy. So if in the next few years economy goes bang then a 981 spyder could be down 40% on list prices!

Generally I think desirable cars like these and v8 ferraris etc hit lowest value at around 5 years then the trend is up. Thing is at the moment is all upside down somewhat. I doubt you will lose your shirt on a 981 and they will go up or at least start selling again once spring arrives. My guess is static for a year or two.

This!

I've always felt that the 981 Spyder was a different type of car. It's a little more 'Grown Up' (and this is not to say the 987 spyder was childish but that it was more of a weekend car and 891 a little more serious). Porsche didn't make such a big deal of the weight saving on the 981 and the literature talked more about 'style' and focus'.

So a different car and, as has been said, a different market; if nothing else because far more people are aware of the 'Spyder' brand, I don't think you can use the values of one car to calculate the values of the other.

But I admit it's fun trying smile
