Hello,

BMW state they price match servicing with other garages in a 5 mile radius using genuine parts. To get them to do this you need to get the quote in writing from another garage.

Has anyone successfully managed to get bmw to price match?

Thanks

Yes, the hardest part is getting the other garage to issue the quote in writing as quite often they know what you are up to.

noone will give you a written quote unless it's for an engine rebuild or something.

Phone call:

You: "Hello, can you provide me with a price for servicing my BMW please?"

Them: "Yes sir, that will be (insert price)"

You: "Can you provide that in writing please?"

Them: "No"

I managed it last year.

A local independent emailed a quote over, and the dealership agreed to match it.

Do you get a straight answer from BMW indies?

I have to say on my Merc and a VW in the family that both go to indies there's very little written down and a lot of trust involved. I emailed a Honda specialist (the old dealer who got canned) today for disc and pads all round on daughter's car hoping for some ammo to use at the dealer but they 'phoned (impressively within minutes) and were vague about the cost.

I've been told to get this promise it must be a BMW dealership in the same area price match and not an independent.

I’d question why the dealer is willing to price match? Are they overcharging?

I know I'm responding to what was a 2 year old thread, but it's been necro'd, so...

I couldn't get a logical response out of my local franchise dealership when I asked them to explain the £300 difference in price between branches for an Inspection 2, and why they wouldn't price match in that case.

They claimed they wouldn't price match as it was part of the same group, and I should take it to them if I wanted the cheaper price. Of course I wanted to save £300, but the other branch was 50 miles away and the courtesy car had a 35 mile limit on it.

Then they tried to state it was due to the differences in local labour rates...but both quoted the same labour rate.

In the end I did go with the cheaper one, and simply arranged for an Enterprise hire car for the 2 days - and they picked me up and dropped my back off all for £36 (the courtesy car had a 35 mile limit and a £15/day admin charge).

A good few years ago I rang around all the main BMW dealers within a 200 mile radius to get a price for an Inspection 2 service on my E46 M3. The car was just over 4 years old with FBMWSH and I wanted to keep it as such.

The most expensive was my local main dealer in Aberdeen at around £1200 plus vat, the cheapest was one of the dealers in Glasgow at £740 plus vat and they asked for the car overnight to check valve clearances when stone cold. Something often overlooked on them.

I called local dealer, explained the costs between them and Glasgow and gave them the opportunity to submit a better quote, in the end they came to within £20 of it, and again needed the car overnight.

I was fully prepared to go to Glasgow, have a night in a hotel and do some shopping with the “free” money I’d save if the local dealer didn’t price match or come within £100.

It took around an hour, but it was time well spent
