Octavia VRS230, 16 plate

Recently I've noticed a split second 'hole' in pick up from standstill which has caused me to have to abort a number of manouveres, in some cases quite dangerously.

Mostly in S mode, however also in drive mode where it seems reluctant to take up drive and is generally 'laggy'

I'm not overly concerned as it goes back to VWFS shortly but has anyone come across this - it would certainly put me off another DSG?

My 220 occasionally seems to have a bit of a brain fart but doesn't seem to have problems when on the move. It's mostly when you're pulling up to a junction and it's caught between 2nd and wanting to drop to 1st, if you go to pull away it seems to have a moment of confusion then suddenly over compensates.
Other than that seems fine, could be smoother and in D it's a bit lazy though quickly sorted dropping into S on the gearbox.

Can't think I've had problems like you describe though, if anything it's a bit aggressive with the clutch.

Driving in S at low speeds is lumpy and lurchy.

Only bother putting it in S preparing for an overtake really.

Had similar experience on my Golf R.

If you look around on the owners forums it's a popular complaint with an easy solution, a pedal box from one of the tuning companies such as DTUK will eliminate it.

Provided the gearbox is smooth otherwise, I'm almost certain this is just how the DSG operates from a standstill - mine certainly does!

If you allow the car to creep forwards momentarily from a standstill before applying the accelerator, I'm assuming it picks up smoothly?

As I understand it, the lurch you experience is the DSG box engaging suddenly which can happen if you don't allow the car to creep forwards first.

Cheers for the comments - this is my third VAG DSG and certainly the most 'snatchy'

Anyway the car is going back in a couple of months and I think i'll go back to a manual next

I believe its the "mapping" of the throttle pedal, its common on many modern cars , it can often be altered by a tuner or as mentioned those sprintbooster boxes can help , a simple ecu reset often helps as well.

Yeah, attempting to mash the accelerator immediately after coming off the brakes results in a jumpy start. Better to give it about a quarter to half a second to allow the gearbox to engage properly.

Also as others have said, S mode is pretty jumpy at lower speeds anyway. From standstill, only really useful in conjunction with launch control ....
