Slayer have announced one last world tour, is this the end for them

The time to quit was when Hanneman died, it's been a rather undignified procession ever since.

They haven't been much cop live for some time IMO. I'd check them out if they were to play a festival I was attending but I wouldn't pay or travel (which I would have to as I live in Aberdeen) for one of their own gigs

Totally agree with you on that, I remember getting Reign in Blood soon as it was in the shops, totally altered my musical direction, I doubt there was a single day in the late 80's when I didn't play that album, still on my regular playlist, saw them 18th April '87 at the Edinburgh Playhouse, absolutely awesome, stupendously tight musicians.

They were on a slow decline after Hanneman passed away. Maybe should have stopped sooner.

Gary Holt will definitely continue playing though.

And Kerry King is (I think) the last BCR endorsee remaining?

You're not wrong there. Their first 5 are great imo. I got into them when SOH came out. I bought the album after seasons and hated it. I haven't bought anything by them since,apart from repentless on vinyl as it was going cheap. Is there anything of theirs worth picking up as I don't know much about them nowadays? Cheers

The live albums? Thats about it for me, they haven't captured that lightning in a bottle for a very long time and they have been surpassed by a large number of bands for their recent output.

I'm still expecting Slayer to do semi regular Festival appearances once they stop touring.

Mustane is talking up another round of Big 4 events before Slayer retire, would be a fitting end for them.

i remember the clash of the titans in birmingham....megadeth wiped the floor with slayer that night ....sorry boys but they were way better. megadeth at that time with that album was just about as good as it got i reckon

I never got on with Justice for All, the lack of bass caused by Lars screwing around with the mix just ruins the album for me. Don't get me wrong, Justice is miles better than any new material Metallica have released post the Black album (and debatably it is better than the Black album as well) but it isn't as good as the first three Metallica albums.

If Burton hadn't died, Lars would have likely been fired, and Justice would have been a very different album.

ride the lightning and master where the best 2 defo pal....i did like justice though, it felt like a bit of a departure...slightly lower tunings and so on...but they definitely parted ways with thrash at that point...and in terms of career moves it was the right thing to do!!..got to say though, everything post justice was in rapid decline for me. black album was ok but but load and everything since has been utter dogst to my ears. how they got so big i'll never know

Yes, I have Decade of Aggression already , which is bloody fantastic. Oh well, I may check a few out on Spotify and see if I like them. Cheers

You have to add Sabbat - History of a time to come. The track "A Cautionary Tale" is a phenomenal piece of 80's Thrash.
