Absolutely no need to go in all guns blazing. I don't see why people think this is good for the first contact relating to a complaint. i need to make the call and see what the seller says , just wanted to prime myself before going in guns blazing , should i request a replacement or are they going to suggest repairing it ?

Either give them a call, or send them an email, explaining the problem as such
"Hello,
I bought a car radio from you on X date, order number 123456. I've fitted the unit to my car but the FM radio function isn't working on this unit. I've tested the aerial using my old radio unit, which works, so I know that this isn't the issue.
Please could you advise whether I should return this unit for repair or replacment?
Kind Regards
Stevo"

yes i will ..infact i have emailed with no reply
its just i dont really want a brand new item being sent in for repair if im entitled to a new one ..
You may not want it, but they probably have the right to repair it to make it work. However, most companies will offer an exchange for a new item to keep you happy as a customer, and send the faulty unit back to the manufacturer its just i dont really want a brand new item being sent in for repair if im entitled to a new one ..
Some car radios need to send power to the aerial amplifier - if they don't FM won't work.
Before you go in all guns blazing check - VAG stuff with bee-sting aerials usually require volts as do some BMWs and countless others no doubt.
You may need to use a power injector if the new radio can't do it.

Aerial power on most factory fit systems is through the connector block .
Most aftermarket systems have a seperate fly lead for it .
Unless you are 100% certain of what the wiring requirements are for your car and system then get it done by a professional.
I am 30 yrs out of the audio business and have to really study the wiring on new systems .
