Hello,

this is my first post in PistonHeads!

I have been living in the UK since September 2014, so it's less than 5 years and I cannot be considered a permanent resident.

I have a UK registered motorbike, a UK driving licence, and I'm in need of advice on which insurer will accept that I am not a resident. Not many do!

Many thanks and best wishes,
Claudia

But you are a UK resident, and have been for three and a bit years. That's all they want to know. Nobody knows if they will be a permanent resident or not...

In practice I am, but not in front of the law! if it comes out, it can be used against me in a possible claim

I presume you're thinking about... https://www.gov.uk/eea-registration-certificate/pe...

They're not asking about your migration status or future plans or where you think of as "home". They're asking about how long you've been here.

The question usually asked is...

How long have you continuously lived in the UK?
...which they explain as...

Insurers need to know how long you have continuously lived in the UK. This needs to be the date from which you've lived here as a permanent resident up to now and not including any gaps in residency of 6 months or more.
For you, the answer is simply "September 2014". Don't over-think it.
